Skydiving!
« on: May 02, 2009, 08:45:53 AM »
For my birthday I'm going skydiving. I've always wanted to do this and I'm super excited.
I may be a little crazy, but oh well!
Who's been? Tell me about it!
If you live near the kansas city or topeka area, and are interested in going mid-may, early June, we'll get a group discount for 5 people or more. Let me know!
I want stories or pictures. NOW!

just bring an extra pair of pants.
Apparently the excitement of the build-up, the trepidation of all the training and preparation coupled with the sheer terror of jumping out of a plane does funny things to weaken that sphinctre muscle.

I've jumped.

Thrown lots of them outa Airplanes.

They do have the best party's.....

Funny story.....One of my first days flying the jump plane....last jump of the day was into a guys backyard. For the party to begin...naturally.

Last guy out...Enrique... hands me the keys to his Saab 90 convertible...and a big wad of cash.

A little stunned I say.."whats this for?"....He looks at me like I'm the dumbest Pilot alive...which I probably was...and Says "go get the Beer"

So...being the dumbest pilot alive...I look at him..and ask..."what kind and how much?"

He rolls his eyes and says "COLD and till  you run outa money". Then jumps.
 :D

I found the party before they ran outa beer thank god.......

I've done two tandem jumps, but no solo yet.  The place I went to in Texas required at least two tandem jumps before you get to do your first solo, but we moved away before I could do it.

I have to say it was freaking awesome!!  The only part where I was nervous was getting suited up.  Once we were in the plane I was totally calm, and sitting in the doorway of the plane with my legs dangling out at 10K feet seemed completely normal.  I guess when you're that high up the ground doesn't seem like as much of an imminent threat as it does when you're just a few hundred feet up.

If/when we move back to Texas I'm definitely driving back down to San Marcos and getting my solo jump in. :)

Best I've done is jump off a bridge with a giant rubber band around my ankles.  Was fun!  I'll have to jump out of a plane someday.

If you can afford it I highly recommend the accelerated course. Your very first free fall will be from 11,500 feet and you will get about a full minute of free fall out of that. You go out with 2 instructors holding on to your suit (which has handles) to make sure you are stabilized but that is all. You get to pull your rip and glide the rest of the way on your own. WORTH EVERY PENNY EXTRA !!!

I wouldn't jump out of a perfectly fine A/C unless it was on fire but there is talk for my 70'th of a flip in a Moth (Tiger that is) ;D there is also talk of a white silk scarf, who knows it may happen.

Bill, I dunno if the 'elf and safety police would let you wear the white scarf (it was ok 90 years ago!). Then again you could get around that problem by filling out the V5649 form in triplicate then by doing a 3 day course on how to tie a white scarf around your neck, and by taking it (the scarf) to a recognised laboratory to have it measured and tested to make sure it is compliant to the "white scarf " standard .
