What you just went through is the hardest thing anyone can be asked in their lifetime to do Bill, now sit down for a while and let the world go round you a bit.
Sounds funny I know but I've burried a brother and a sister way before their time and there is a time straight after the funeral, a lul when all the preparation you can do has been done.
Now you need a quiet time for your own reflections, don't worry it comes naturally and is a very private thing, just let it happen when it does.
Our thoughts are with you mate.....Hush.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Bill, our thoughts are with you.  Be strong, your family needs you more than ever.
John

I meant to respond to  this, John and thank you for the thoughts and support and kinda got past it. :(

Now, I've just gotten off of the phone with you and while I'm not to good with phone conversations, I'm getting a bit more used to it and I'm really glad to touch base with you. 8)

I had just awakened from a much needed nap. You see, I just could not go to sleep last night and never even affected me, sleep wise, until around 4:30 or 5 this afternoon and my eyes started wanting to "Slam Shut!" :-\ Now, you didn't wake me up though, I was starting to wake up and it was a very nice thing to wake up to, I have to tell you.

                              Take care, Bill ;)

Hi Bill.I know of what you speak. My wife died in my arms some years ago now.I am sadly reminded of it almost on a daily basis.I reflect on the great life we had together in those moments. It helps.  Jim

Thank you Jim, I know what you are talking about. I can still see how she was acting and how her breathing got labored and when her breathing (along with her heart) stopped, it just seemed like the ambulance would NEVER get here! They just never were able to get any response from her. She told me several times that she just knew the Lord was coming back before her Dad died, then she would say that he was coming before anyone else died and I guess she just got tired of waiting. She NEVER really got over her Dad dying. Even this last Father's Day, I would find her "all misty eyed" and she would simply say "Sorry" and I would tell her that she had done nothing to be sorry about.

My Lady has gone to be with her Heavenly Father and her Earthly Father and I will miss her very much, until I can once again be with her. For now, I have the next best thing, in our Daughter. She (Karla) has been such a rock and has really stepped up and helped me so much and acted so responsible and all (you would never know that she has a problem with comprehension and that (even though she is 31) she is in the area of 12-15 or 16yrs old mentually. There just seem to be times that she breaks through to be able to somewhat think like a person who doesn't have those handicaps. It is trully amazing. 8)

Yeah, it was that Smile that got to me also! I always told her that, "At least you should knoe that I wasn't after you because of your car, because I had a road runner like you did, to which she would respond, "Mine was faster than yours!" ::) ;) I would just agree with her and think to myself,"No It's Not Either!" :D

Several have posted about getting through today as being one of the hurtles and the size of it and all. There were (and still are) some to go through. But, AFTER I managed to get past the initial one (getting out of that hospital after being told that she didn't make it), then the next one was having to go to the funeral home and make all the arrangements (along with going to the cemetery, selecting and purchasing her plot. Then, getting through the visitation and then the funeral itself. :'( Over the years I've seen so many folks in the same position and really felt for them and yet, didn't REALLY know what they were going through......................and now I know............................. :(

I'll tell you, our preacher did such a wonderful service about Brenda. He asked to see her Bible and see just what scriptures she had underlined and/or made notes about and he was just astounded at ALL the notes she had written in there and such as that. 8) I got the impression that we might still be there listening to him, if he were to use ALL the notes and underlined scriptures. ;)

Time will tell, about how well I get through this!

I want to say though that, after my faith in God, the support that I have gotten and will continue to get from here, the support from family and local friends, has truly been phenominal!

And I Thank You All For That,  Bill

And I want to thank you for allowing me to rattle on as I sometimes do! ::)

G'Day Bill, I'm sorry mate, I've been away for a couple of weeks doing Army stuff. Anyway, I am so sorry to hear about your lady, I'm sure that just like you, she was a wonderful person, and I can only imagine what you're going through, it's my wife's birthday tomorrow and I've bought her a car as a surprise present so I'm pretty excited, so reading about your loss has really made me think about how bad it would be if Wendy wasn't around anymore.

We've occasionally fought like cats and dogs over our 30 years together, but deep down I know she's my soul mate, and like you, I'd be "gutted" if she wasn't there for me, so all I can say is that I hope you hold up ok, knowing that my thoughts, and the thoughts of all the other great guys here will be with you at this sad time. Cheers, Terry. :'(
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

When I stopped and realized that you hadn't posted, I thought that you just might be doing the Army thing. Good to see you back. :)

You tell Wendy "Happy Birthday" for me and I hope you all have a great celebration. 8)

Brenda and I have had our times, but we ALSO knew that we were meant for each other. :)

One time we went out to eat with one of Brenda's Aunts and a Cousin and on the way out of the place, we were cutting up and, during that I said, "You know, maybe we ought to get married" and Brenda quickly said, "What, and Spoil All The Fun?" ;D Her Aunt and Cousin like to have died! :D

I'll tell ya, there just isn't any easy way to get through this.
We were looking forward to racking up those years of marriage AND we made it to 38yrs and were halfway to 39. It was kinda funny, she could remember exactly how many years it had been AND I couldn't always remember the exact date because we were married on Jan 5, 1971 and Karla's (our Daughter) birthday was Jan 8, 1978.
 See what I mean?

Wonder how long I'll keep expecting Brenda to pop in, call me or me wake up to find that it was just a very terrible dream? :(

Well, things have sorta settled down. This is the 1st day AFTER the funeral. Everybody has gone back to their jobs and such. Brenda's family came up for the funeral and left right after Brenda was buried. I know they are taking it hard too, but I was hoping that they would have, at least, gone back to the Church, had alittle something to eat and visited, before they left. :(  I'm really off to a great start, today was trash day and I missed the truck! ::) Got so many loose ends to tieup, it isn't even funny. After things settle a little, I need to start working on picking out a monument and what to say on it. That's going to be pretty hard. :( At 1st, the 2 young men that we work with through Bost, didn't want to come back to the house (and one of them was living with us), because Brenda wasn't here. :( And, I can understand that, but it put even MORE pressure on me though. But yesterday, Joey (who we worked with, but didn't live with us) came to the Church before we had the funeral and said that he wanted to sit with ME during the funeral and ride to the cemetery with me. 8) Then, he also came back to the Church for lunch with us and spent a few hours with Karla and me at our home. James (he is living with us through Bost) was at the Church, after the funeral (he didn't want to go), ate with us and visited and went on a Camping trip with his mom, brothers and sister. He is SUPPOSED To some back to our home next Sunday morning (and I just realized, that he'll either have to be early enough to go to Church or later, after we get back from Church. ::)
Maybe the 2 of them will work back in, even though Brenda is gone.
Well, whatever happens happens. I want them to be here and be comfortable, but I've got more than enough to do, without worrying
about it. At first it doesn't seem like it but, Life Does Go On (not as well, at 1st, but it does go on)

Bill, I was in "the system" when I was younger, and although it is a different set up than what you and Brenda participate in, I'd like to say on those you helps behalf "Thanks".
Most people have no idea how much strength it takes to help people, let alone special needs people. I can honestly say, that although it seems like you have alot on your plate, you WILL make it through and you will be stronger than ever.
It should be no surprise to you though, for the strength that you use to be patient, kind and loving in your day to day life (even when Brenda was there) is the same "glue" that is going to help you get through all of this. A lesser man would've abandoned us, and left us all hanging on your words wondering how you're doing.
Just remember, it takes a very unique person to do what you do Bill. Your special to all of us, and we have faith that you'll continue giving, even when you think you haven't anymore left.

You've managed to really shake me, because I just try to help them to feel like they have a place in life, because they do! For too many years, folks with special needs were kept either at home or IN homes (institutions or such). You never saw them, except maybe on rare occasion. Now, they are "out there" and place are being created to give them a place to work, earn some money (though not much, but it is something), be somewhat independent and have accomplishments. I've been doing this sort of stuff for 10yrs now and I've learned quite a bit myself. Now, something else that I don't think I've told. Back when I was a newborn, my parents were keeping (what was called) "welfare children". They would usually have 1 or maybe 2 at a time and my parents were newly weds when they started doing this. I remember, at least 1 boy and 2 girls. One of those girls ended up staying with us AND my parents tried to adopt her, but the mother, who wouldn't take care of her, would not release her either. >:( That young 12 yr old girl helped to raise me and, to this very day, I claim her as my Sister. Her name was Margaret. I say "was" because 1 yr after she helped my Dad and me get over my Mom's death, SHE died. :(  Now, she and David didn't get along, because she would go toe to toe with him over his attitude and such. 8) Maybe that's what helps give me the compassion to try to help others like that, I don't know.

As far as abandoning you all, there is no way (that I'm aware of) that I'd do that. Being of Dutch descent, I'm  pretty good example of the "Hard Headed Dutchman". ;) And besides, that works Both ways. I wouldn't know how to act, if I couldn't come on here and be a part of this place and all of you who are a part of
it as well. The "SOHC4 Family" is very much a part of me, a Big part!

Thank you for your kind words, but I just try to help others, you know? I actually got into working with folks like that, when I was working at a GMC dealership (in Shipping & Receiving in the parts room) and, after a while, I began looking for something better. I was retired from Civil Service, but needed more income because of our Daughter being Special Needs also. Finally, after having a hard time coming up with something, Brenda and the mother of the youngman that I mainly work with, convinced me to give it a try. And the man who would be our boss (my wife was already working for another place like Bost but was changing over to Bost), told my wife that "if he'll just fill out the application, He's Hired". So, I did it and Brenda and I started working for Bost 10 yrs ago this month. ;)

Well, as I said it takes a very unique person to be able to continue forth with it.
I was a foster child, after running away from home, and over the course of the 3 years I lived with my foster parents, I had 9 sisters and a brother. 1 of those sisters I claim as my sister and we still talk. If it weren't for people such as yourself that decide they have more room in their hearts, I don't know where I would be today. That story just proves the point that Brenda must've been a beautiful person.

Thank you for sharing that story Bill.

I only just saw this - Am so sorry Bill.  I don't know how I would go on if I was in your place.
