Anyone out there with a 78 750F that can take a photo of the primary gear.  Mine is getting shredded by the chain and I think it is too far out on the shaft?  I can't however manage to move it from the present position.  Will try and post a photo of what I am talking about.

Update on the sprocket wear...

I removed the chain guard for a closer look and the inside of the rear wheel sprocket is severely worn.  This tells me the front is either too far out or the back sprocket is too far in.  Using a laser sighted straigt edge on the rear sprocket face, they are off 3/8".  Holy smokes!!!  I have to say there is no way the front can be off that much.  Has to be the rear.  I double checked the rear wheel adjusters and they are dead even.  Then it dawned on me this is not a factory set up.  The rear wheel is a drum brake comstar from a K model.  Not your typical F setup with a disc brake.  Anyone know if this might be the issue?  All I can think of doing at this point is to remove the rear sprocket and install 3/8" spacer to move the sprocket out.

Didn't know they even made a comstar with a drum. You should try getting ahold of member ALAN F. He makes spacers. He might know. Here is his info http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=142

Its your sprocket carrier on the rear 77/78 would have a diff spacing then the earlier and later bikes.

I might be wrong but I think those Comstars are for the DOHC model. If so that is more than likely your problem.

3/8 is 10 mm and that is the difference between a K8 and a K1-6 sprocket carrier and hub......i would say you have the wrong model carrier as well.....

Yeah those are dohc wheels and the carrier is the thing the rear sprocket bolts to that slides into the rear wheel. Youll eather need different spacers for your rear wheel or you can use it as a reason to go back to rear disk  ;D

You actually need an earlier carrier and spacers.....

Will the correct carrier fit that wheel? IDK id the 77/78 carrier will fit in a dohc wheel.

Thanks for your help and patience.  I think the easiest solution is to look for some spacers or a stock disk set up...

Has anyone modified a 1977/78 750f stock muffler? And if so what did you do to it?

Chopped mine off with a hacksaw, leaving not much more than a open pipe. It was loud but did it improve anything? I doubt it.
That which does not kill you leaves cool scabs which turn into awesome scars.
