Oooh, I'd like a chrome K1 tank mate, how much? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That tank is a thing of beauty, that's for sure.

Did you ever get your final drive sprocket sorted out?

Walnecks is in Woodstock again this Sunday.  Going?

Be on the lookout for dpender836's spot on the northeast side of the grounds, he always has the best collection of CB750 parts :)

I polished the steel tank on my Yamaha FZ750 ages ago and then clearcoated it before it was able to flash rust. I'll have to dig up a pic somewhere...

Back in 1970-71 there was a guy in Manhattan who had a CB750 with the tank chromed. Until now it was the only one I ever saw. Did you fill the emblem holes (weld)?

That chromed tank looks f*cking great. I might have to bite your style on that one.

Heavy Metal at it's finest! That paint job looks great.
It might be old school thinking, but a guy just can't go wrong with metal flake and chrome.

I resurrect this thread to congratulate Porscheguy on winning Best Streetfighter at Acetoberfest in Chicago!  That chrome kicks serious a$$, and it brings in the trophies.

Way to go, man.

Thought I would share this ebay link.  I had to open up my online bank account and  move the window over the picture in the final min. of the auction to keep from bidding...

...crap, auction ended so naturally now I can't search for it.
Anyways, it was a 69' CB77 305 superhawk in with a chrome gas tank, about 9000 mile on it.

It was beautiful

That's right!  Congrats to tinyrobot, as well, for winning best cafe (it was best cafe, right?).

Full disclosure: I wasn't actually there, I heard this second-hand.  But the SOHCers are out there, making it happen.  Keep it up!

This thread just gave me an idea (that I will probably never get a chance to use).  Is there any good way to paint on top of chrome and have it look good?

I'm envisioning a two toned paint scheme for a tank in which the two tones are dark red and chrome.

I guess another problem would be the clearcoat.

Any thoughts?

Anyways awesome looking bike, I like the wrapped exhaust, it avoids a chrome overload.  I'm impressed.

you can paint anything if you prep it right. the trick is getting the edges to hold well. you need to sand it thoroughly everywhere it will get painted. right up to your tape line.

rule of thumb is paint won't stick to anything shiny. like a sticker on a car window- it peels off easily, because window is smooth. sticker on a rough surface sticks a lot better. painters call it giving the surface 'teeth'. something to sink into.

I have painted chrome w/ rattle cans and w/ spray guns. different types of paint as well. what matters is the prep.

and the chrome will not need clear. just leave it taped off. and retape after sanding to keep your edges sharp.

good luck, feel free to ask me ?'s
