Okay

The rotor is coming out this weekend and being cleaned up in my lathe.

While the carbies are out I will sort the jetting. Its very hard to find larger jets for these carbies.

I am looking for some jet drills, but the question is:

Anyone have a good idea, also cost effective, regarding carbies to replace the stock ones?

What size jet do you need?
You can buy CR carbs but you'll have to wait until they restock them.

The 80's would be nice to try, thanks. Where did you buy yours from?

I was wondering if the 500/4 carbies would be much of a headache to fit?

This is a scrapheap bike after all   ;)

I'm out of town, when I get home I'll post a link. I'm not sure if the 500/4 carbs would work.

The engine I'm running right now is stock with pods and I had a SS exhaust made but the builder didn't make it right so I'm having it fixed. I have been running a stock exhaust with a HD sportster muffler. I have a spare engine taken apart down to the crank that I'm going to build.

Question:

What revs does the 400/4 pull at 60mph or 100kph in top?

I need to play with the gearing on this bike as it looks way too tall.

I want to keep the 17 tooth on the front as it gives the swingarm clearance.

Open to Suggestions ?

Thank you!!! Appreciate your help.

Just need to get a percentage reduction that would be a good place to start - 15%

6250 rpm @ 60??

Well I need to get busy on this and get it finished. I have the bike almost back together again after fixing the rotor.

I need to find a larger rear sprocket, think i will get a universal one and drill it to suit.

I have to get the Oil cooler sorted. and where to mount it? Maybe above the front guard, and under the headlight??

I will be making some offroad footpegs for it from some old KTM ones I have in a box in the shed.

So much to do . . .

Well as It is now running well and I should have it registered next week. A couple of things to look at.

I am going to take to an old bike wrecker who has a number of old tanks and seats to see if I can get better cacapity. I have removed the fork springs and measured them, now looking for some heavier springs.

The rear sprocket options has caused me some concern.

Standard final reduction of 2.235:1

I am running a 17 tooth front sprocket for clearance on the swingarm so road gearing would be 38 tooth. I was wanting to go to 42 tooth but found something close that was 41 tooth. This will give me a final drive ratio of 2.412:1. Hoping that is low enough. I now have to get the holes milled in, offest 45 Degrees to get the same spacing as the 400 rear wheel.

41 tooth on the left, 34 on the right was fitted to the bike.

The Clutch on this bike is quite heavy?

Is this usual, or is there an adjustment I can make to lighten the lever pull?

New cable maybe?

I will pull it of and lubricate it and see if that makes any difference. :)

Rear sprocket has been milled and now fits. Chain has to have 4 links put back in.

I have also removed the XR forks for new seals. One came apart easy, the other is being a bit more difficult.

Draining the old fork oil, it looked like black filthy watery oil. Dont know if it was capable of doing much  ;)

It will have its first shake down ride this weekend.

Well had the first ride last Friday, all went well, it ran for about 5 minutes then stopped.

I parked it in the shed, the next morning went out and it started right up a ran nicely. Again ran for 5 minutes then stopped.

To me it sounds like condensors. So I have sent an email to Z1 Enterprises and getting a price on a Dyna S and new coils.

First impressions / areas for improvement:

Fork springs are way to soft, foot pegs too high and bars too low.

I will fit a new tank and seat set up too. Very limited turning as tripples hit the tank.

Apart from that its great and it will be a blast on the open road

I will post a few pics when I upload them.

Pezz :)

Very exciting - looking forward to some updates on this cool little machine!

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.
