The Sky is falling. Outlook is grim. Roger Penske did not have a positive Vue. Decided deal had a bad Aura. Dealers can kiss their Astra good-bye.  :-*

waiiiiiit he isnt buying saturn? hope i can keep the old wagon going without all the dealer only parts. i want to hit at least half a million miles before retiring the thing

Great.  Now I will own 2 orphan brands, Oldsmobile and now Saturn.  Plus one orphan motorcycle brand, BSA.

I never did quite understand how this was to work. How could Penske not build them, but just sell them when GM could build them and sell them but had decided it was a loser.  ??? ???

Well now saturn may not have started that great but they seem to have become a fairly good car. I do think pontiac should have bit the dust before Olds though.

3 more years and my 1994 sw1 will have 1/2 million miles on it. best, most reliable care i've ever owned.

Its not a company, its a brand owned by GM.  From what I heard on the news this morning, which wasn't much, GM isn't going to be laying anyone off and are going to phase out Saturn.  They will probably turn the plant over to one of their other brands, as a number of the newer Saturns and other GM cars share the same platform.

i'm going to start buying spares from wreckers here in town, parts that i'll eventually need as i plan on keeping my saturn for a long time. i can carry parts (i brought 1 1/2 suzuki titans home from ohio in the back) bags of feed, hay or band equipment and still get 35+ mpg. it always starts and i've never had to any major work on it. the next thing i need to do is a timing chain and lifters as i'm finally getting a little noise from a worn hydraulic lifter. the only thing that doesnt work is the a/c and thats not a worry to me. the other problem i have with the brand is the fact that alot of good folks are losing their jobs. my main worry though is the fact that there are still alot of parts on my 16 year old car that are dealer only. it would suck if i couldnt keep the wagon going because the factory isnt around anymore. the year saturn i have was built back when saturn had their own, propeitary (sp?) motors and transmissions.

Funny you mention that Fuzz...

Saturn was always a child of GM. Even waaaaaaaay back when they did those commercials with the old lady and her first new car.

GM thought.... lets make a car company that uses our money for funding... but is run completely seperate.

Then when it starting going into the black instead of belly up like GM.... they took it over in hopes of making that profit work for them.

Too bad they used crappy GM parts in those nice reliable Saturn cars.  :D :D :D

my only complaint about my car is that when brand new, the car had 85 horsepower. it isnt the most pleasant car to drive on hilly interstates because when i have the cruisecontrol on it downshifts and revs like hell. when this motor finally lets go (if it ever does) i'm going to do a twin cam motor swap in it. stock, the twincam had 28 more horsepower. i'll keep the auto trans though. i wonder if i can get a million miles out of the old girl?

Shouldn't be too hard. Proper maintenance like you've been doing goes a helluva long way.

I drive a 2008 Mini Cooper S, a 2001 Chevy S10(beater bike moving truck), and a 1978 Mazda RX7(right hand drive). Is that ok with you? lol

since it's first oil change at 1500 miles i've never used anything but mobil 1. i also have never used the cheap no-name gas, just shell or amoco. i like this car and i plan on keeping it for a long time. when i changed plugs a few weeks ago i did a compression check and the lowest was 148 pounds, highest was 155.

Lol, i'lll have to get some pics of it...Only has 23k original Km's on it! Factory body kit and leather interior!

The only reason I have the S10 is because it's an ex-NAPA delivery truck I bought for 200 dollars...It works well as a bike and parts moving truck but something is always in need of repair on it...

I'd feel the same if Hyundai or Kia went under as I do that Saturn is...nothing of theirs ever has interested me...
