yellow paint on nuts
« on: December 15, 2005, 09:48:30 AM »
Ok, not knowing everything like so many others, I have a question.
What is the deal with the yellow paint Honda put on the nuts and bolts?
Was this a way to let the builders on the line know the nut/bolt had been torqued down?
Or what?
 ???
Is it more valuable?

It is an indication of inspection. And yes, if you were going to do a "show" restoration, these are considered valuable indications of accuracy.

Actually, I've never seen any originals with the yellow, but from what I have read, they weren't dipped in yellow paint. Just a dab of yellow paint was put on the head. Maybe someone with firsthand knowledge could verify this. Oh, and doing it youself, after the fact is cheating. The yellow is supposed to be original to count.  ;)

This needs to be asked in a dank room with puddles of beer all over the floor, cigarette smoke hovering along the ceiling, and lots of popcorn to throw at each other.  I'll bet Noah would have envied a barn door this wide open.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Okay, okay... have I go this straight?

Yellow is a sign of cowardice, right? So, it's
petty simple really.

IF you have yellow paint on your nuts,
it means you've got no balls?   ;D

can't come up with any witty remarks about cowardly nuts but, this does remind me of swimming for some reason  ;D

anyway, as the inspector checks the torque of nuts, bolts, screws, etc. he gives them a dab of yellow paint with his paint pen.

as a PDI (pre-delivery inspection) mechanic for several years following MMI, i was trained to do the same.  although, i would use a different color paint pen to  assure the customer that his or her bike had been thoroughly checked over... twice.

it is a great system, requires little extra time or effort, and is helpful to even the shadetree mechanic in knowing that at least they are checking their own work.

Thats funny I have had the desire to paint my nuts yellow too?   It makes you think don't it!  Has your ass been sore and you seem to pick up radio waves?   Also I have been humming a tune I call "alien rectal probe".   Well I don't know what all this could mean so I am going to bed.
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

Uhmmm, I have some nuts/bolts I paint yellow after a full restoration project,
so when the customer comes back complaining the carbs aren't sync ed I can
catch him/her, and point out if they want me to fix it AGAIN, beause the screws/;nuts/bolts
were retourqued, touched, moved,
 the normal
shop rate applies starting 15 minutes ago.

Ergo, go with yellow nuts. Red looks nasty and most women will find this to be
a reason to go out with " numbnuts over there " instead of you. ;D

Regarding the subject line...
You can paint nuts on your bike with whatever color you like, including yellow.  You could have a distictive theme bike in that way, I suppose.  Maybe the Discovery channel will include it in a segment.   Lets see, the yellow cashew bike.  Or, the Red pistasio bike.  The black brazil nut bike.  Or, perhaps the tan macadamia nut and hawiian guitar bike?  The green peanut bike has a catchy ring to it, don't you think?

The biggest problem might be the days of indifference with a bike painted in this way.  After all,
Sometimes you feel like a nut and sometimes you don't.   ::)

When I did my restoration I replaced every nut and bolt expert the ones with the yellow paint.
Looks a bit funny along side the new shinny ones,  but I know why they are that way, even if others don't.
