Bill Maher "Religulours"
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:22:25 PM »
Short Video here

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/22/bill-maher-takes-on-relig_n_114325.html

Watched it the other night on DVD.

An interesting take on Religion ;) ;)

Recommended watching for both "believers" and the rest of us. I learned a lot.

Man, I laughed out loud at that movie, quite funny. The girlfriend didn't laugh as much... Lutheran.

Yeah, the scene at the Vatican with the priest was refreshing.
It is good to know there are a few priests out there that "Get it".
People seem to lose track of the fact that the bible (new and old testament) was written by men. Along with the Quaran, the Torah, and all the other religious texts out there.

i just got around to watching this movie and i'f left with some different feelings on it. Bill Maher was just way too antagonistic towards religion, BUT watching some of the people he interviewed stumble and stammer trying to exlain themselves said alot to me as well. great movie all together though. i enjoyed it alot more than i thought i would

I got the feeling that it was self-indulgent on his part.  But I've always gotten that feeling from him.

I saw it a while ago and don't remember specifics about what people said.  But I'm gonna watch it again tonight and come back to comment.
In the meantime, on the theme of Leprechauns and videos that make people look ridiculous:

I finally saw this movie.  I rented it a few days ago.

It's funny how people can believe things, that under other circumstances, would be very hard to believe.  I'm not talking about the existence of a God, per se, but certain specific beliefs that go along with certain religions.  (We all can think of something... just think of a specific belief of one of the many religions you happen to not be a follower of.)

It's a shame that religion can be used to take advantage of people.  I lost count of the number of times I've flipped on the religious channel and saw a preacher asking for money.  It's usually the 'give and get back 7-fold' routine.  It's shameless really.  I hate to see people get taken advantage of.  And it's especially easy to take advantage of people that are suffering personal tragedy.   :'(

People dumb enough to send their money to those charlatans deserve to have their money taken.

i expected this to be funny, but couldn't even make it through the whole movie. at least michael moore and Ali G pick on intelligent or "important" people.. it seems like he picked easy targets to corner and talked about himself a lot. disappointing, as there is plenty to criticize about religion.
