I turned 61 last week, so I figure I am working out of warranty anyway.

Had to chuckle at this one. A couple of years ago when folks were picking on John McCain for his age, I decided to check (he's only a few years older than I am). Then, for the heck of it, I researched what my life expectancy was when I was born. Ignoring what I call "actuarial creep  ;)" aka, you made this far so we will give you credit for some extra years," I'm well beyond my expiration date, you know, like milk that's been in the fridge too long.  :)
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Well it has been a while. I am now two years post treatment. I don;t have a oomph I had 10 years ago, but I am also older.

I received the maximum amount of radiation they can ethically give which is why I picked this guy.He published research on using mega dosages at Sloan Kettering in the early days, so he knew what he is dealing with. Also my insides were such he could get good angles. I have been tested every 90 days and the numbers were great. The first PSA test I came out .7 which was a bigger drop than he had ever seen.

3 months later I had pains and it skyrocketed over where I started. Both Docs freaked and said I should start the Testosterone killing drugs immediately. I said F......You, treat me for and infection first. Six weeks of some nasty crap called Levaquin which messes you up, and it dropped like a rock.
The Urologist manned up and said he was wrong. The Radiation Oncologist was just happy he did not fail. I like the guy a lot, but I have some plans for him.

Each test everything gets better and I get better. I did some deferred maintenance on the bike and I intend to ride that #$%*.

One weekend a Month I help out shuttling the sick kids to the Shriners Hospital and other special centers. It hurts, but it is a good hurt. The Parents sometimes hug us, and it is hard to look tough.

Life has been good so far. My PSA has dropped and stayed at .035 for the last few tests. People have asked why I blow a weekend for free. I guess these people never knew what it is like to have a second chance.

I want you to know how much your good wishes meant to me, and I am sure somebody heard you and gave me that second shot.

glad it's good news.

you have my sincere admiration for meeting the battle the way you did and, as i say, were generous enough to school the rest of us in what one faces and learns through this process. i'm middle aged and a mature man (or woman) looks at these things with a sober mind.

Just checking in Bobby, you haven't updated this for a while so I'm guessing you are too busy riding and getting on with life. Good for you, best wishes....Hush. :)

I am doing pretty well fellas. I have another appointment and had a PSA so I will see how I am doing.
I have been back to riding for quite a while. Work is getting in the way of fun. I dd a lot of work on the old girl last winter and have some projects planned.

I am getting older and seat time takes a bit more out of me than 20 years ago, but I worked that out with taking higher quality rides.

Anyone guy reading this, get tested. If it comes out positive contact me and I have some advice to prevent the horror stories you read in the news.

Well done Bobby. You've always been a warrior, and your fighting attitude has been what's gotten you through the challenges you've faced throughout your life, and this is no different. Keep fighting mate.  ;)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I want to thank you guys for all the good wishes. I just got back from the Urologist and all the tests came out rock solid good. 2 years good and feeling fine. No one will ever say cured, but there is no sign of disease.

I have been much luckier than I deserve. I have been in some tight spots. This one may have been the tightest. First time in my life I truly felt helpless, had to put my fate in someone else's hands.

Well, I guess it is my time to start paying back for all the chances I have been given.

People my age should get the colonoscopy done also. It's worth it for the peace of mind. Sometimes your insurance won't pay for it unless there are symptoms. Easily solved by having symptoms.

Great to hear Bobby, a story of a fightback and win is welcome.
Just caught up with a very old riding buddy, when I was 15/16 he has 18 and I was his wingman, we partied, rode, picked up girls and generally did a lot of what teenage males do.
Spent many good days chasing his 500 Kwaka on my outmatched 1972 Suzi T350. ;D
Lost contact with him a few years back and just tracked him down, unfortunately he has a very aggressive form of cancer for which there is no remission.
Would dearly have loved another 20 years rebuilding and riding bikes with Jim..bugger.

That sucks and I am truly saddened to hear that. Cancer is a sneaky bastard and not really well understood. Stay in touch with him and remember the good times. The longer you live the more people you start to lose. I get emails about fellows I served with passing away from this and that.
One guy I always admired just passed away at 68 leaving a 32 year old widow. That guy was always my hero. You have to admire that.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey Dennis,
Good to hear from you.  I am still well but it look like the little bastard had a few cells that were not killed and started to grow. I went down to Sloan Kettering in NYC and from all tests it is early and still contained. They are using a drug to shrink it and kill it off, those that don;t die will be weak.

He will put some radioactive seeds right into them using a real time CT scanner. He says he will kill it once and for all. This guy is World famous and not touchy feelie, I know Nurses there and he is all business. He will plant the seeds in Feb and it should be all over around June. At that point I will probably retire, take my Social Security and go do something I want to do.
