Took the day and cleaned up allot of the 70  cb 175 that my daughter got me for Christmas.
Lotsa degreaser and paint thinner to get forty some odd years of crud off it, scraping, brushing ...3 times through the carwash. Now it's looking clean enough to work on.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
550 Snowbike -Somebody had to do it.

Rode the PC to work, when I got off the bike I nearly fell on my butt due to ice.  Roads were fine but the parking lot still had ice at 9 am...Larry

Took the front and back wheels off my 750 K3 and put new Pirellis on. The old tyres although new were not upto it.
Had fun with the chain ..a few Vodkas fixed it.

Got my fix yesterday, my son helped me to get it of the center stand since I can't lift more than 10 pounds and rode 30 miles.

God that felt good  ;D

Today I took a short ride to warm the engine. Then pulled out the vacuum gauges and synced the carbs. Starting to run much smoother. We'll see how she starts cold tomorrow.

Got some freshly bored/honed cylinders back from the machinist, who had a laugh because the pistons were in tiny velvet bags from wiseco.

HA!  I could see how anyone who works on true big blocks would think these little pistons are like toys.

On his "wall of shame" shelf he had a valve long as my torso and the round part bigger than my head, and a gigantic piston. I forgot to ask him what it came out of though.

Speaking of wall of shame, I looked into my biggest mistake on my project, the disastrous hm341 set. I was happy that my welder fixed up the three that were fully rusted through, but now the fourth one has rusted through. To make things worse I tapped to see how far it goes and now there is a big fat hole in the lower left pipe. I suppose I should add this to my parts to find list now :(

If it isn't the #2 pipe (I believe that one) then I bet some guys have a decent one laying around. If I'm remembering the right pipe the #2 rusts out considerably more. There are usually spares of the other ones

I'll have to look at pix to confirm but I'm sure you're right, its #2. You're also right about this one being a buster. A quick ebay search came up with full sets or spares for the remaining three, not one left lower listed at the moment. Know of someone who might have a spare that I can start bugging?? :)

Stopped by the shop I get parts from and noticed a mint condition candy orange cb750 on the showroom floor. Vin plate stamped 4/71 I think, turns out its been at the shop since new in 71, never been fired up... Paint, chrome, clocks, seat, pipes all in show room condition, the odometer is 00001.7, it's unreal. I snapped a couple pics but forgot to get the vin and engine number, will be back in next month to warranty my front tire and will get the #'s and some more pics. It was a beauty.

It's lined up along the back wall with some beauties, nc30, gb500, the K1, 79 cb750 anniversary edition, rickman 750, cr750, cbx & that crazy 70's chopper with the Tracy body kit I posted a while ago. I love dropping in there, always leave wishing I was richer though.

More riding like usual, got a nice salt bath. Supposed to be good for the skin, too bad it isn't for the headers

Most of the lower sides of the bike look like that, oh well. Still gonna ride.

It sure is, by the looks of it the gas tank has never had fuel inside of it. When I get a moment to get pics in photobucket I'll put some up.

Hard to believe (not that I doubt) even a few got left untouched with the way they were flying out the door back then...

Rear fender underside was really rusted, so it got the prep n etch treatment.
Might go with a plastidip or hammered-type of coating on this side.

8hour soak on each end..

just a few small spots to work out...

in the meantime, my baggie.of small shifter parts got stacked the way they should.  Shifts smoothly through all gears.
