I went to Western Hills Honda, and picked up a new spring for my center stand. The old one was stretched and letting the C-stand drop when the road gets bumpy., (Cincinnati has some bumpy effin roads too) Put the new one on, and made a beer run. (This bike keeps gettin better.) Now I'm enjoing my second Sam Adams Honey Porter, and waiting for the GF to get home. (Maybe she'll treat me to some Chinese food)

Took them dang Daiichi points off the bike and polished the old Honda ones I took off, put 'em on, gapped them@14 thou. and timed them with the timing light...and the points plate is right at half-way of its adjustment (nice), instead of cranked all to one side and still not on the 'F' mark with the afterm'k't points...... much better, lesson learned.

Made sure the battery was juiced, then changed the oil on the VFR and went to the International Motorcycle Show.  Lots of cool new bikes, my favorite had to be the new VFR1200F.

Sadly, I don't think the US is going to get any color other than the red metal flake that was on the show bike.  No matter, it looked great!!  In other news, I did see a CB750 out in the parking lot.    8)

A mate of mine dropped in last night on his way back from a swap meet and stayed overnight, he'd walked all around the swap meet in 100 deg F temps and was pretty disappointed with the lack of bike stuff there, he's not really computer literate but is starting to understand that here at least, EBay is killing swap meets, and in years to come, they'll probably cease to exist.

Anyway, this morning we fired up my '73 Laverda 750SF1 and my Triumph Rocket III and went for a quick 20 miler, he used to own a Laverda "back in the day" so was like a kid in a candy store, I asked him if he wanted to try the Rocket, but he only rode it for a couple of miles and then asked if we could swap back as he loved the Laverda but felt "out of his depth" on the big Triumph. All in all a good ride, I need to clean and grease the starter clutch on the Laverda this afternoon and take it out again as it was making a "gronching" sound, but that's no biggie, just part of old bike ownership. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Put 2 ounces of SeaFoam in the crank case, took her for a 20-mile ride, then home to change the oil.  3000-mile tune up tomorrow and prep for the fall/winter riding season.  Front-end rebuild when winter gets too deep to ride any more.

I got a new tire!  I switched from a 120/80 18 rear to a 110/90 18 rear, and now I belong to the 'stock is better' fan club that seems evident here.  Then I put about 10 twisty-turney miles on my new rubber....I love it!

well i got my headlight back up and running found a bad ground.Mounted my front brake back on.Then i fixed a leaking  fuel petcock and had enough so i got on it and took it for a ride only to discover the retorqueing of the head bolts did not cure a bad oil leak near the oil gallery of the head it has new gaskets on the head.however i read on here that i might need to smear a light coating on the gasket surface near the oil gallery gasket and retighten it down.

Yeah, thanks, those Gravel Crew and Bratstyle bikes were definitely the inspiration for this one. Just really fell in love with some of those the first time I saw them. They seem to have a good, interesting combination of styles.

As far as the seat, I fabbed a new seat pan using the stock mounting hardware and had Houge Custom Upholstery in Ames, Iowa do the covering. They did a nice job. I am going to take some better shots of the seat and post them in my project thread...also, video will be posted tomorrow...

It was 75 degrees in my part of Virginia so I walked right past the project and rode the 750F for about 130 miles, crossing into WV and back.  It got REAL chilly as the sun went down.

Got scolded by the cops.  There is this island in the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis that has a picturesque 110 year old bridge.  It gets little traffic so I park my bike on the bridge to get a shot for the "let's see your bike on the road" thread and of course the cops drive by.  I did not get my picture. >:(

Today I was able to finish my custom side cover. For now I'm going to leave the stock oil bag so I only made one cover.
the main section is 18 ga. steel. You'd think that would be thin, but I put a slight curve to it and the other section make it rigid.
I powder coated it with Screamin' Eagle Black Wrinkle. The Silver is Perforated steel. On this part I just ground it down with a random swrills and Powdered it with clear. The Cross is 10 ga. steel, ground down, candy red paint then powder coated clear.
The Silver is attached with acorn nuts and screws. I attached the cross with some industrial epoxy. It turned out better than I had hoped.
If your wondering, the bike started out as a CB750K5. After choppin', grinding & strippin' off things I don't need... it's more of a Bratstyle, well that's where it's headed.

Welded up the stainless muffler mount and installed it with the temporary baffle. Then went through the carbs one more time, I think it will run good now.
