Guess the cost of a little bit of bubble wrap for each of the pistons and other goodies is just too much overhead for CycleX to absorb Terry  ::) Surprised they don't each have their own little box.
As for my orange Effin' F tank the inside was still looking pretty good before I lined and all the patches were holding and did not leak during cleaning. I found one 'new' pinhole near the front corner that would have been a problem if I had not lined. Sure someday 'the bottom will fall out' though ,but hopefully after I am done with it  :D
The wife broke even at the Indian casino but my have had more fun at the huge buffet which she got 50% off on !

Terry, I found a box of CycleX pistons on eBay. Everything very well packed. See box in the add wich was placed in another box. Good seller!
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB750-SOHC-Big-Bore-Piston-Kit-849cc/202227831592?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

It had a good price and low shipping with prepaid customs that make it even better since I do not need to pay extra for the customs billing me.

I have a worn 836 cylinder that need to be bored around 0.3mm to fit these 65.5 mm pistons. The old RC836 did not smoke despite a clearance of 0.2mm!

I do not know which build that will get it.
I have an old K1 engine that I think will get a 900 cyl setup I have together with a ported head with stock valve sizes. I like to have an extra spare engine.
I hope stock rods with F2 bolts will cope with it. A cam with more overlap will make rod life easier due to less compression. But I'm not sure that it''s possible to not let it rev to 9500 rpm.

Way back in the '70's some PO (probably the original owner) dressed up this bike with chrome side covers, cam cover, fork legs, rear brake plate, brake stay, and front caliper bracket.

40 years later the chrome is pitted and peeling on pretty much all of it. So I am going to replace all the engine covers and probably the fork legs. The engine in my roller bike already has polished cases and fork legs that I did a few years ago so I can just swap them over, I'm going to use the cam cover from the frozen '74 engine since the other engine is a '77 and I want to save that improved cover for a future project.

The '74 cam cover is in great shape, no movement in the rocker shaft and the cam follower pads are uniformly smooth. That's gong to get painted like stock and, the cam chain cover, adjuster caps, and end caps will get polished.

Not possible to remove the chrome in a cheap way?

I know chrome can be stripped off, but I don't think it is cost effective.

Talk to a chrome plating company, they can strip that chrome off for probably $20... They just throw it in their tank, and Voila! Bare aluminum when they are done. I have a 1985 XV1000 Virago left side cover that I am going to do this to, as it is peeling chrome bad, and I want to upgrade my old 1981 XV920RH to the later, more reliable solenoid actuated starter! I had a fellow on this forum enlighten me about chrome removal from aluminum...

Yeah Charlie, they can "reverse chrome" them, I need to do that with a K0 cam cover I have here. ;D

Nice! I take my wife and mother in law to a pub with poker machines once a month, they have an "all you can eat" bistro which is really nice, and seniors (over 60's) get a big discount and a free drink. We have a big meal, then the mother and law and I lose all our money while the wife does some shopping to kill time while she's waiting for us, as she doesn't gamble. ;D

Nice pistons Per! Yeah, CycleX really dropped the ball with their packaging on my kit, which I paid more for, than you did for your 850 kit. I left them neutral feedback as the pistons are still good, regardless of how lazy they were. I'm sure I've got another hot street cam here, yes I could buy a cheap one from CycleX again, but after this, I'm not sure I want to deal with them again.

Yep, Rust-Oleum satin black for that top triple, then on my K1 winter project. Good times! ;D

Mentioned in an earlier thread that I had a K5 (Basketcase Blackie) making a mess under the forks so this afternoon I moved it to the work zone and changed out the old seals and also replaced the torn and very hard vulcanized 'rubber' fork gaitors. Easier to just cut those old hard things off. Everything went smooth and hopefully no more leakers. This bike may be a good candidate to give my son this summer and he can go out and beat the crap out it and not worry about a scratch or something. Ran pretty good last summer after doing up the engine the winter before from a blocked oil jet that that ate the cam and a tower when the previous owner had it,hence the name Basketcase Blackie. Luckily he had saved all the pieces from his tear down  ;) Get her out and put some more miles on it and see what else happens, last picture is done and ready !  :D

First off, good luck finding a plater, I know of exactly 1 with is 100 miles of me.

Second, who does anything for $20 anymore?!

Actually got 3 within 6 miles of me, the 4th closed a couple years ago. It's not an expensive proposition for them, they just dissolve the chrome back into their solution or something like that, there isn't any outlay for their labor, and they aren't actually 'plating' it.

Fortunately their are several platers around Chicago including one a mile or so from Moto Guild,  but the $20 a piece seems unlikely.

Just remember, they aren't PLATING it, they are removing the chrome.. big difference.

About chroming off...It will cost for each batch of parts since they do it in same bath? 1 or 5 parts, same price?

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well it's Good Friday here, and from my vague memories of religious instruction lessons at school 50 years ago, the day they nailed my mate Jesus on the cross, which always made me wonder who it was that named it "Good Friday"? And why the fcuk was I eating "Hot Cross Buns"?

But I digress. Today was the day that I was gonna sort out the things that needed sorting out on the Bitsa. There's been an oil leak from the cam cover since I put it together, which I put down to the washers under the stainless cam cover screws. I removed all the screws, and removed the washers.

I then installed an oil pressure gauge. I was happy to see 80 psi when I first fired it up, and 60 psi at a steady idle of 1200 RPM when cold. Later in the day when I took it for a ride it was sitting on 60 psi @ 60MPH, but dropped down to about 30 at the lights.

I pulled the 125 main jets out and drilled them out to 140. The combination of the K&N air filter and free-er flowing exhaust has made it run pretty lean even with the 125's that I'd previously installed, so I got the drill out. I also installed new D7EA plugs, to replace the D8's that were in the engine when I bought it.

It started better I thought, and warmed up quicker without the choke than usual, but when I gave it the berries over a longish distance, it started to miss and fart, which felt like I need to check the float levels. I noticed when I took the bowls off that there wasn't much fuel in any of the bowls, even though they were consistent, so I'll whip the carbs off and adjust them, or I might just swap them over with another set I've got here.

Regardless, it was a great day, and I had a great ride! Oh, and the cam cover's still leaking oil............ ;D
