Hopefully y’all approve of my work

Looks fantastic.  Approved!   I see a future BOTM there....

So, if that hypothetically ever happened, it would be the most validating experience of my life. Which is weird, because I don’t know any of you. But I do want to say, it only looks the way it does because of you folks on this forum - as always, very grateful and very aware that I’m a CB novice. The whole engine would be satin black if BenelliSEI hadn’t posted pictures of his bike and made me INSANELY jealous

Looks to me like you’re catching on very fast. Looks spectacular!

Luckily no leaks yet but only 300 miles since rebuild.  They will probably start once I get over 500 which should be soon.

Beautiful bike!  Did you restore it as well as the motor rebuild?

Thanks Stev-O, yes but the engine was only torn down to the pistons.  No case split.  The morning sun from the picture certainly makes the bike look better.  Build thread below.

How did you get your engine covers so shiny?

Following advice on here I got a 3-stage from caswell that cost only $50 - you get 6 buffing wheels/ pads, and 3 cutting compounds. It is very good. Other than major scratches or scuffs (used files and sandpaper for those) the rope wheel will get off any scratches or oxidation. So I used the kit, with the addition of my dremel and assorted mini buffing pads for the hard to reach areas around the bolt holes etc. The valve cover and stator cover have some annoying crannies.

I used a clamp to clamp my high-speed corded drill to the bench, and then brought the cover to the drill. Proper redneck engineering. I’ve done the same thing with an angle grinder, but don’t tell my girlfriend 👍 Make sure you wear a respirator and eye protection. The polishing powder & aluminum dust are absolutely filthy and ruinous to your health. Probably won’t kill your just doing one set of covers though.

It’s very simple but fairly tedious. And yeah, addictive. And it will make the rest of your bike look like #$%* when you’re done, so before you know it you’re trawling fastener websites for shiny shinies and polishing your cam chain tensioner that no one will ever see

Took out the K3 for ride #3 yesterday. The front brake was really dragging. Split the caliper and pumped out the grungy edged pad. The piston was out a long way, but did not “pop”. Blew out most of the crud with an aerosol brake kleen. Folded up a small square of Scotchbrite and polished around the piston and caliper bore hole, with some more brake kleen. Worked really well.

Scuffed the edge of the pad clean and faced it off on a sheet of 120 grit paper. Very light smear of silicone brake lubricant around the metal pad edge and back it went. Pivot was totally free, so left it alone. Sucked in a full load of fresh fluid with the Mity-Vac and it performs perfectly. All in about 15 minutes! +50 miles with no drag or squeal.

My son calls the K3 his “rat bike”. The engine has never been out of the frame. It runs great, but has a clutch rattle when taking off from rest. I suspect the snubbers behind the clutch basket are shot, but it runs so well I’m not worrying about it!

Would an o-ring work in this case?

I got the frame taped off for fiberglassing the seat/cowl late last night. Ready to fiberglass in 5 mins although I’ve been dragging my feet because I -hate- it. It’s so sticky and messy.

Once it’s dry I need to take my rear wheel off - I accidentally forgot to put on the adjuster things, which is not very good workmanship

Hey Cliff……. Those look great! Did you see the 4-4 Delkevic pipes “Denward” installed on his most recent cb550 project? Too bad they don’t make a set (4-4) for cb750’s. BUSSO would be done!

Pulled the cb750K1 out. Fresh gas, new fuel lines and it fired right up. Too short a trip to call it ride #5 (started raining and I was expecting a visitor), but it ran really well! Those HM300 pipes really make the best noises.

Met a guy from Toronto that was interested in owning a SOHCcb750. He  came by to look at all my bikes and really liked the K8. Went through my records and discovered I restored it in 2010 and last rode it in 2012! Where does the time go? He went home to “sleep on it”, but I’m pretty sure it’s “SOLD”.

John, are you selling the one with Lesters or the one w/o ?
The two bikes look the same there in the garage;you have two K8's ?

So yesterday I got my now dent-free, primered CL350 tank back from the paint shop.
They had to use a stud puller on the dent so I wanted to wait until that was done before I coated it.
(I cleaned out the old liner and de-rusted it and stripped the paint before I took it in.)
A quick rinse with some phosphoric acid to remove the flash rust and it was ready for the POR-15, which went on fine.
Monday I'll take it back to the painter and they can shoot everything.

That’s an old photo. Selling the one with the Lesters, but those are on my K3 now. It’s back on a freshly spoked set of stock rims. The other K8 belonged to my shop mate, Gary A. The K7 is also fully restored, in the back of my shop. The guy looked at both and prefered the K8. They’ve both been parked for +10 years, but are stored properly. Shouldn’t take much to bring it back to life. Waiting to hear back from him Sunday.

This is my K7. I’ve decided they are useless at the back of the shop and someone should be riding them! Today I noticed I mistakenly installed a cb550 disc (too small) on the K7. Need to swap it out before someone else spots it.

Hey Sean, I think the major flaw with the PD carbs is the teeny tiny vent hole. ;) I would drill those suckers out to at least 1/16". ;D

hey yeah!  thats good thinkin,  I wonder if that will affect float setting?   Tbh, those things have a few other flaws when it comes to gettin/keepin em clean, like tiny orifices in the accelerator pump circuit, fragile diaphragm pump and some of the parts are nla, pressed in pilots, fiddly choke opening mechanism...

You may find you wanna file down the edges of your choke plates the tiniest bit - they’re liable to oxidize and jam up on the inside of the carb throat
