I pruchased Yamaha Bond to seal the cases (I know, sacrelige), do I need to use anything on any of the gaskets or just dry?

I don't know if you've seen this link yet, but there are some great manuals online.  Look in this one, and check out Fig 89.  I think it has some of your o-rings you're looking to identify.  You can probably search the pdf for "o-ring" and come up with most of what you're looking for.

Good so far.  I've only done one carb bowl.  This coming week I've got rebuilding the carbs as my # objective.  In what order did you clean up yours?  Blast first, soak in simple green?  Lemme know.  Any time I can save would be much appreciated.

I cleadned all the major crud off the bodies and bowls inside and out rinsed them in vinegar, then ultrasonically cleaned everything in Simple Green Heavy duty (the purple stuff @ Home Depot). I would not reccomend using this stuff on anything  steel though, wierd things will happen to the finish.

I don't have an ultrasonic cleaning system, but I did soak everything overnight in the purple Simple Green.  It did a good job knocking off the grime, then I soda blasted the carbs, and neutralized the soda in vinegar water.  They're looking pretty good!  Hope to assemble the carbs tomorrow to check another minor project off my list.

I realized, after sending you the link to the manual, that I'm a total tool.  Sorry for sending you a 550 manual when you're building a 750!

I remember back in the day very serious conversations about heat and painting a motor. WHich of course is a little silly as the factory painted them. It really got "heated" when talking about painting black as black would hold the heat in.

Never any proof one way or the other and the factory was doing it so WTF.

Consider this, many motorcycle engines (HD comes to mind) are powder coated nowadays.  Powdercoat being thicker than paint, I figure that if that's OK than paint is OK too.

Yeah, well when we can no longer brag about current achievements, etc. we revert to reminiscing.   ;D

"Back in the day" for me is the 70s, the era of the SOHC4, and I was there.

In the 70s it was becoming the thing to paint engines black, so the conversations came up. I can remember motorcycle magazines with technical articles about it, etc. Like so many things, a non-issue to me.

The factories would often pick up on what the customizers were doing and incorporate them into factory models. Hence the black factory engines late in the 70s.

There were black cylinders on Triumphs and such in the 60s, but they were cast iron, so not apples to apples.

I say paint (or powdercoat-Mystic) whatever you want. If you ride it enough afterwards to indicate overheating good for you.

You are aware that YamaBond has been known to react with the special Honda aluminum alloys? A very serious situation so be careful.

Currently rebuilding my wheels, they're ready to be laced etc.. I was gonna press the bearings back in in the morning. Do the balls face out or is it the plastic piece that faces out? I thought I was being very thorough but this is one thing I did not take photos of. Note to self: do not slack on the documentation!!!

About the Yamabond... when I showed up @ the shop they actually gave me hondabond to my surprise, so no disintegrating cases here, I hope!!! I'm more nervous about putting the cases back together than I was about splitting them?! I've actually done 3 dry runs just to make sure the transmission works correctly.
I'm gonna slow down o this project and do it RIGHT. Stopped by my neighbor's the other night to borrow a chainsaw and he offered me his Suzuki GS1100 for FREE, so, that is the bike I'll be riding until the CB750F is done properly (to my liking, that is). Looks like an early '80s model, I think, hey who cares, it's free!!! I'l post pics when this crazy storm passes and we can push it into my studio.

I think the upper left mystery gasket is for the points/E.I. cover. I'm takin my engine apart now, and keep noticing those lil o rings everywhere. they are tricky to label, eh?
