I have owned a couple of these cars and they absolutely fly, they weigh next to nothing and have a 5 liter aussie V8 and 4 speed shift with a salisbury rear end, i really miss my last one..

Mick

Hey Mick, sounds good! I don't know that much about the Australian cars, enlighten me. :)

one day if i can ever afford it, i'd love to be able to find and import an early 70's falcon xb and build my own MFP pursuit special, except mine will actually have a working supercharger
Hi Bill, well its a GM with an Aussie made 5 litre V8, very good engines, they were basically a race car homoligated for the street. They were the size of your average 4 cylinder car and, well mine had over 400HP, when set up well they were like a high powered go cart, heaps of fun to drive...

I just noticed that one says "8000" so it has a 8 litre engine transplant.....scary fun. The car was called the Holden SLR5000 Torana. Have a look on google, there's plenty of pics and info there..

Cheers...Mick

Now, got get the idea that I am slighting the Holdens that have been posted here. I think they are cool cars and all, but I just happened to look them up online, like Mick (Retro) suggested and look at this Prototype:

               It's a GTR-X Torana [1970] prototype

At one point, you could get the 327 V8 and later on, the 350 as well.

And here's the specs from 1948 and on, in this link.

Mick

Really a NICE one there too Mick. AND, As you might notice, I was just referring to the fact that the 327 and the 350 v8's were offered at different times. Loks like that should have made a very nice "Power To Weight" ratio.

i shouldnt have sold mine either mick!this was a 68 hk monaro,i bought it with hubcaps on it and so standard,it had a hg grille though(accident repair?)it was a 186 cid straight six with a factory two barrel(stromberg ww2)and an opel four speed, after i literally split the gearbox in two i fitted a rebored six(192)with a wild cam and a saginaw,i only had a holley 500 but sold the car before i could fit a set of triples from an xu1,it was quite fast but still not a v8 in such a heavy car!these are worth an absolute kings ransom here now!!!

He sold his CL175 to buy it. It was his favorite car ever, and hes looking to get another one at some point. I cant figure out why... ;)

That '65 could use either a solid liftered 273 or a terribly leaned on 440. Elephant power is, of course, the uppermost in solutions. And a nice vintage 6-71 huffer on top would just be icing. ;D

Oh yes Mike, YOU are talking the kind of language I understand!

Myself, my first thoughts were a nicely warmed up 318/340/360 smallblock with a a 4sp and posi-traction and a suitable suspension OR a Nicely ? "Leaned on" 383/440 with same drivetrain as mentioned. The things I mentioned, would be slightly possible by me. But the Ultimate, Hemi w/ a 6-71 and the rest of the package to make it somewhat streetable, is WAY out of MY pricerange (but, not out of my dreams :D ) A person could come up with  a heck of a Power to weight ratio with THAT one!

At one time, Chrysler had (at least) a part of Sunbeam, if not all of it. Before that though Carroll Shelby was the force behind the Sunbeam Tiger (which was an Alpine, I think was the name, with ford running gear. Either a 260 or 289 V-8 with a 4sp). That's the best I remember now. ;)
