With a bit of time on my hands recuperating I thought I'd do a good deed! So, I've managed to source a DVD copy of some old video tapes that cover:
1. Honda America film of the 1970 Daytona 200 with the Dick Mann win
2. Honda Factory tour from 1966 with lots of pictures of the build process and twangy strange music!
3. A speeded up short of a "commuter" riding to work in San Francisco mid 1980s
4. Film of the California "Sunday Morning Ride" 1985/86
The first two items have suffered with age, they are lacking in blue tones on the film giving an overall orangey/red tint to the film and it's a little wobbly in places, BUT, ifyou haven't seen Dick Mann's victory like I hadn't, it's a good piece of nostalgia. I can't actually believe the way he streaks off from the line leaving the whole field for dead. It's also got some useful shots for CR750 builders to use as references and includes footage of Ralph Bryans and Tommy Robb too. The final Sunday Morning Ride film is a fantastic bit of period footage. It's quite long and has interviews with the likes of Wade Boyd's father - something you'll watch again and again.
So, the plan is this. The DVD is
free and with
free postage to wherever in the world. All I ask in return is that you send me a £7.50 GBP donation for the Rob Vine Fund in the Isle of Man. The Rob Vine Fund was set up when Rob lost his life racing over there and is a cause I support whenever I can. I had my hair cut off for the same charity and raised them £2000 in the process so you can see it means a lot to me
If you want to check out the charity itself, you can have a look at what they do for our sport at :
http://www.mms.org.im/robvinefundIf you'd like a DVD sending (I think they will end up being region 1 only so check your DVD player is multi-region if you don't live in the USA), simply send a donation of £7.50 to my paypal account using email address simon.tappin@moonpie.co.uk
Get your mates to do the same, keep your copy to yourself, it's for a charity that supports the last great road races left on earth so be generous, buy one for your Mum as a present! It's cheap for the amount of footage you get, go on, get sending that order in, now
