You have 6 volts on the point that moves when the points are open. Do you have 0 volts on the point that moves when the points are closed? If so all is well with the primary side of the coil.
To test the secondary side of the coil you need an ohm meter. With the ignition turned off and the points closed the resistance between some were on the engine, say the points plate, and the contact on the inside of the spark plug cap were the spark plug cap grips the end of the spark plug should be about 15K ohms. This is about 10K ohms in the coil and about 5K in the spark plug cap. This is not a precise number. Much under 10K ohms I would start to worry. I expect you may find well over 15K ohms. If so unscrew the spark plug cap and check the resistance of the spark plug cap and the resistance between the end of the wire and the engine. Some times just cutting a small amount off the end of the wire from the coil and screwing the spark plug cap back in will fix the problem.
I find that the problem with Super 90 electrics is mostly in the connections. Not in the actual components.
The coil and capacitor are mounted on the top of the engine. You would have to drop the engine to get to them.
PM me if you have more questions.

Hi Steve
I thought of one more test that you might do. If you meter can measure amps. I would check the current going through the coil. There should be about a 3 amp current through the coil. To measure this set the points open and turn on the ignition. With your meter set to measure amps put plus lead to the point that moves and the negative lead to the point plate.
Let us know what you find.

Your model appears to be a '65.......the off-set carb and the slope of the exhaust port changed during '65........also some S90 bikes were made for Arizona with different specs because of a 5HP rule. All of the motors with your exhaust port angle are said to have a little more power at road speeds. The silver paint color is the same as used on numerous other models in those years........match case covers and fork legs, then match fenders to other fenders....

All the S90's I ever saw were either black or red. Until one day, one if the older guys in Grade 12 in our high school showed up on a blue one. No, it wasn't a CL, it was an S.

I remember it being almost new, and blue. Only one we ever saw. We still wonder about it, all these years later.... ;)

According to the Honda sales brochure for this model at the time, blue was a colour that was available.

Wow, thanks for posting that brochure HNR!

Sure enough, bottom right, there it is listed.

Mystery solved, after all these years. It is a rare color however, of all the hundreds (if not thousands) of S90 bikes that were around here, there was only the one in blue.

And now of course, there are none of any color!

well i think the coil is bad.  there is infinite reisistance between the block and the plug wire.  plus when i pulled the engine the coil was corroded and nasty.

so now the hunt for a new coil.

would the cheapys from ebay be fine? or is it better to find a used oem coil?

any other hondas use the same coil?

okay so i pulled the coil.
i have 22 ohms of resistance between the end of the plug wire and the terminal on the coil with the black wire.  there is infinite between the plug wire and the blue wire.
there is also infinite between the plug wire and the ground.

would that make this a bad coil?

That's an interesting ad!  The "Roadster" that is featured, looks to be a customized Cub 90.  I've seen several of the Cub 50's kits to make the "Rally", but never this one.  I'll bet it would be super rare and quite valuable to have one.

Here in Canada, we had several Cub models that I don't believe made it state-side. One was a 55cc variant of the 50cc version, and another was the 65cc Cub that had the same motor as the S65.

That is a later model. Mine is a 1966 and has a VIN # S904788xx. Also, if you'll note in the black bike's photo, the air cleaner cover on the right side does not have the cut-out for the side-mounted carb's adjustment screw. The early models (I think all 1965 and 1966) had the curved manifold that put the carb at the right side on the airbox as shown in this pic of my all original bike. The 1967 and later ones had the straight manifolds that positioned the carburetor in the middle of the box.

Note my avitar - the S90 is my very first real motorcycle and despite the fact it's shrank over the years (it did I swear it), I'll never forget the fun I had on that first one.

Regards,
Gordon

Yep, I've had 1965 to 70 models, was going to ask for pic of intake but Gordon beat me to it

Hello there my fellow S90 brother!! I just started getting mine together.

One of the hardest frigging things to get is that battery door cover...and youve got it. Did you get the paperwork yet?

Look on the tail light lens the red part it usually has the year.
Also Many parts from the trail 90 are the same.

I used to race those and we would lighten the rocker arms from 4 oz. to 2.5 ounces. Revs quick then!

We called them super 90's
