Wear chaps when riding? Be very carefull.............
« on: January 27, 2010, 03:22:30 PM »
Or this may happen to you too!

Chaps came apart. They got sucked into my back tire and locked it up. I made my first payment on my new Victory Hammer S about three days after I got out of the hospital. Plano Texas, President...  "

Sorry, I thought the comments would come with it, here they are:

Good quality gear just doesn't come apart as he said. Tough break though.

   Okay, I didn't watch it because Zappa is on my itunes station right now and I'm NOT shutting it off :P but...from what I'm reading it sounds nasty. That being said there's no substitution for good riding gear over fashion gear.

   Chaps, really ::)...

Geez, that gives me the heebie jeebies just watching it.  All around, though, it looked pretty tame as far as crashes go - skid, lockup, flips him down and he rolled a time or two.  But, you assume by the fact that he didn't jump right up that it was a hard one.  It's the fact that it's on an INTERSTATE that gives me the willies.  That truck that stopped behind him could have easily been hit from behind by someone and then the samaritans and biker BOTH would've been run over!  Talk about adding insult to injury.

I'm still confused about the chaps deal though.  They 'fell apart'??  Ugh.  How does THAT happen?  I mean, have you ever in your life had clothes blow right off you??  Man, doesn't THAT suck...

Even if the chaps hadnt fallen apart and he crashed for some other reason wearing chaps would not have helped him protect his a$$....he would still get severe road rash in that area.

Chaps are for cowboys and at best wind protection on a motorcycle. Nothing else. Leather/synthetic trousers with armor at the only real protection in a road crash.

At firt glance I wasn't sure if the guy was gonna stop in time, then he put on his hazzard lights. Not too bright for some of the other drivers on the opisite side of the freeway running accross the road. They're just putting their lives in danger.
Glad you made it out okay. Sorry about your bike though.

John Wayne was on a horse not a bike. On a bike if you fall off wearing chaps they arent going to save your a$$ getting deep deep road rash....there are some nasty photos around of guys who have fallen off wearing chaps. You wont be sitting down for a very long time...utterly useless for protection aside from the wind as you mention.

They're not bad for sand and tumbling rocks on the highway, but yes I'll agree they're only mildly protective...until one is involuntarily seperated from their bike, then yes they're useless.
