Hey Jensen, Good to see you back on here. Yeah, I'm liking that Bomber too and ALWAYS like to check your posts and see what you've got going now.

Have you been able to help strynboen get his 400 bearing problem taken care of?

@ Strynboen : Funny, within a few weeks I'll drive trough Denmark when going to Sweden for Holiday with wife and kids.
@ Bill : don't worry, I do my best to help, as soon as Strynboen drops a list I shall see what I can do to help him.
@ fastbroshi and Andy750 : yes it's a bike to be proud off, and I am. I really like it's "character" and style. Sometimes I use it for long distances too, but that's the time when I miss the CB400F the most
@RickB : I followed your build up, I deeply respect it, as mine is in so much better start condition.
@brewsky, : Yes this is a nice place that invites to share knowledge, as you may have reed this thread, there are no negative answers or reactions on the way I rebuild an engine, I really appreciate that from everyone here on the forum.

Today I cleaned and checked the transmission, pictures included. It's in almost perfect shape, just one chip missing, but I guess that's or a production error or due to hard shifting. The teeth look perfect, so do the splines, actually everything is in good shape. I'll take of the gears and fit them on the NOS main shaft and counter shaft. It's not really necessary, but I got them really cheap, so why not.

Hi,

It still is a tough decision whether or not to repaint the crankcase, it is in a nice shape, except the front side, but it is original. btw, at the rear of the crankcase there are numbers and letter written at the production process, it's amazing that these are still there. On the front side there is a lot of oxidation, small stones crashed into it, and I cannot remove the dirt without removing the paint. I tried with all kinds of cleaners, but this is the result. If I'm gonna let it paint I want only the front of the crankcase to be painted. I found a guy who says he can do it, and I think he can. Hi Stryboen,

Maybe I do, but you are living on an Island ? btw, the cost of that cylinder was lower then re bore and hone the one on the bike. it was a so called sensible choise. Other the that, std. pistons are way cheaper then 0,25 or 0,50 oversize pistons.

Nice to see this is still going on. I have numbers similar to your hand drawn numbers on the back of project 13s engine case. I cleaned very carefully around it to preserve it for the perfectionists. There were similar numbers on the forks, under the brake mounts and one or two other places. I am pretty sure I took pictures of most of them.

Hi,

not as I want, because of the financial crisis I have to work harder on the ongoing projects, so less time to spend on wrenching. However I ride a lot on the bomber. But the sad weather is coming soon, so I'll quit riding and start wrenching very soon. In the mean time I worked on my garage, made a new stand for a few CB450 K0 engines, boxed up the rest of the bomber stuff, it's not very big. I have to do that carefully because it has to fit in. Room, in this part of the Netherlands is very expensive, and my wife doesn't want to see the stuff in the house.

Good thread, I'm at the beginning of a CB400F rebuild myself and I'm wondering how you put the cases back together? The primary and cam horseshoe both go around the crank and the primary is connected to the lower case by the main shaft and the ? How did you manage to get everything back together?

Hi,

After working through lot of other bikes, changing job and raise my kids, I started working on my CB400F again.
So now the CB400F gets that task, as it is the only non twin I have.

Now I'm in the process of getting all parts together and start building the engine.

In the mean time the original owner past away (see first post), so an extra reason to finish the bike.

Here some pictures of the the bikes that I worked on the last three years, the CB450 K1 and K2 are finished, the CB72 is to be completed first before restoring.

Hi,

And off we go....First cleaned out the garage, putted some stuff at my attic and made some room on my workbench.
Located all the CB400F parts, and brought them in the garage, now there's no way back anymore.
The CB450 K0 head on the bench is the last not SOHC4 part for the rest of this winter, I promise....

Did I do nothing on the CB400f all those years ? Well, not precisely, just buying a few nice parts for the build.
(funny that when you are NOT looking for parts for a specific bike, you will find the nicest parts for that specific bike CHEAP)

A NOS seat (cheap), NOS exhasut system (I won't mention what I paid for it, makes people jealous), a very good used exhaust system, a NOS tacho and speedo,some small parts like a winker (the original which came with the bike was a little pitted), etc.

Did I need all those parts ? No, but these parts were just too cheap to let them go.
As I'm planning to make this my rider, It won't be a luxury either, and if I don't need them, I can always sell again.

Found the box with engine parts too, and since I documented every step I took, I started at the same point as I left years ago, inspecting engine parts....

shift shaft inspection, as other internal parts like cam chain tensioner.

As I read on this forum, the cam shaft tensioner is something to look at carefully. I know that these parts are remade, probably even better then original, anyone knows what and were to buy ?
I started this thread because I couldn't adjust my cam chain any more, thinking I was just in time, but the tensioner speaks otherwise, saying just a little too late.
