Man, after seeing your post apocalyptic rat-nasty ride go on that road trip of yours I think ratbikes are flameproof.  I have been wrong before though...  ;)
It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

This thread is awesome!
I see the validity to both points.. but the animosity that some of you guys throw towards people that customize their bikes is unreal..
my bike had been neglected for decades when i found it.. and since i found it and you didn't its mine to fix up and run off a cliff or put a new seat handlebars on.. which seems to many peoples disapproval.

i know a guy that had a cb400f like mine and he was just stoked to see one out running.. bone stock or not.  if you know these bikes they aren't hard to pick out of a crowd. cafe'd... ratted out.. whatever the case may be.

im pretty much a noob anyway so does my opinion even count? haha!

Its true, dirt is nonflammable.  Safety first, I always say.

I guess I've never done anything to my bike that couldn't be undone with simple green or a wrench.  But no bike is sacred.  That to me is their inherent beauty, that they are (relatively) cheap and plentiful.  And, let's face it, they are often part of a new rider's learning curve, for better and worse.

And yet.... only a Honda would last that long, take that beating and still keep running smooth. Did you notice it never hiccuped once? You wouldn't see a HD even start, hanging up like that. That sucker wouldn't give up and kept running just to prove how good it really is. Hell yeah!! #$%* them! ;D ;D

Me and a friend are picking up a '78 750F tonight for $100 that's been sitting for who knows how long. The current owner said he bought it from an aged fellow who had it sitting in a cotton field(don't you just love the South...)

We're gonna chop the hell out of it after I rob everything but the motor, suspension and frame  ;D

That movie showed up on here a few years ago. Some dumb f%$#s
idea of some sort of art project IIRC. Used for exactly the opposite of its intended purpose. RIP. >:(

You could say the same about some cafe/bobber/chopper projects on here.....just sayin ;). As for the video some would say its his bike and he can do what he wants with it......to me its just more money than sense  :-\

You're right Andy, it IS his bike to do with as he wishes. But, that still don't make it right. At least we have the right to disapprove, eh? ;)

Couple of points.

1.  I'm 41 years old.  I'm not a kid.

2.  I cafe'd my bike

Not sure what to think of a guy who JUST JOINED this site, and is ready to start criticizing others.

~Joe

Let's see....when did you join? Hmmm.. a whopping 6 months ago! I don't think we need to use that tone here as I don't see where someone's personal opinion is worth more or less than the oldest forum member. I like the nicely done cafe's as much as the original/restored 750's, but if you take one of those nicely restored or original bikes and start cutting it up....well, I too am gonna cringe. I don't think the problem here is so much with people disliking cafe'd bikes as it is that someone tears into the nicer specimens to build one. So everyone just chill, 'kay?  I don't understand why in a lot of these threads we can't just share our opinions without someone taking it as a personal attack.

Spoken like the moderator that you ain't.

~Joe
