Hey bw, I could always give you the mirrors.  If I tape up the headlight and put Brian Henderson on it, that should more than make up for your 6th gear, and extra displacement.  At least that way you will know when he's coming by. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I wouldn't need any mirrors with Henderson out there, binoculars maybe.

Glad you enjoyed the read K, thanks for the post.

On the filter front an update.  As I posted in my filter thread in 'For Sale', the 2 prototypes have arrived.  I will be picking them up Saturday, and hope to get one mounted on the 550 this weekend.  Photos of course to follow. ;D ;D

BTW - have you seen the BOTM thread?

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

I would probably agree with your observation, but those little pieces in vinyl have keep some serious coin in my pocket, so they will stay (at least for now).
It's your bike, my man. :)

I did look at other mirror solutions.  However the point of having them is to see what's behind you.
Silly me - I thought that the point was to have the smallest and least-ugly looking thing that will prevent me from getting a ticket.  ;D

Beat the snow going to the shop, not quite coming home this weekend. ::)  I've got 4 snows on the truck, so the black ice, and a small hill didn't bother me.  It was fun though, doing a salom up through the stuck cute utes, with their 'all season' tires. ;) :)

The good news is the filter arrived and I did get do a 1st trial fitting.  Width looks good, as the kick starter folds into its stock position without touching.

More photos, and details in the filter thread - http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=79491.75 shortly.

The 2nd thing I got sorted and finalizied was the rear bake setup.  Added a return spring, and made a temporary link for the brake light switch spring to attach to.  The 6mm bolt will be replaced by a clevis pin, and a steel link for the brake light spring.

Shifter side is organizied.  I cut down an old 550 shifter, and re-positioned it.  The original bend created just the right clearence for the rod-end bolt, and aligned it with the one on the pedal. :)  Just need to make a linkage rod, and cleanup the original shifter part.

Also had time to delve into the horn switch problem.  I've got a solution now, but need to remove the tank 1st, so I can change some wiring around.  That will be the 1st thing on the list for the next trip; if I can pick up some 90 degree blade connectors before then.  My sync tool didn't show up before I left, so tuning still needs to be done.

Tried the mirrors in some different positions.  Up and in, I get to see elbows; down and in, knees, plus they may hit the tank. ::)  So, these only work as they were, or like this, or down and out.  Of course Goddfrey could always donate a pair of the $160 ones. ;D ;D ;D

The battery is an Odyssey PC310 dry cell.  So no battery acid fumes, or leakage to wreak paint or parts. ;)

The stock Yuasa is> L-5.3125" / W-3.1875" / H-6.3125", and it weighs 6.8lbs.
The PC310 is> L-5.43" / W-3.39" / H-3.93", and it weighs 5.9lbs.  So the PC310 is about 2" shorter, and 1lb+ lighter than stock.

Its also sitting lower in the frame, and more central.  When I choose this the Ion A123 packs were home built stuff.  It would be an easy swap to fit one of those were the PC310 is now.  So that is a possible future upgrade.

Thanks for the info, I am in the market for a new battery. Dry cell may be the way to go...

I ordered some vacuum gages 3 weeks ago to build a carb tuning device (manometer i think)
they were coming from somewhere in Canada haven't seen them and the tracking number just says the were shipped, nothing more?

anyway, still watching, I have started a bobber project possibly to sale but this is keeping my interest in a racer toy.

very nice.

I have had my sync tool for about 25+ years.  It was purchased to balance dual Weber setups.  Loaned it to a friend, and then he loaned it. ::)  Just having a hard time connecting, as we have all moved.

I learned to 'see the line' walking show jumping and 3 Day event courses.  That made learning Solo2 courses much easier.  Karting and vintage racing taught me to look ahead, down the track.  Kind of like I see the line as I approach the corner, but when I'm actually there I'm already looking past it.  If my exit position matched the mental picture I had or have, then I figured I drove it right.  We will have to see how well I can translate that to a bike at a trackday.  One thing for sure though, power sliding through the apex, will be on the 'don't go there list'. ;) :)

Love the sensation you get when the balance between throttle and steering matches perfectly, but the track is the only place for it any more.

We used to practice on the dirt on road bikes just to get a feel for that point when traction becomes vague and the drift takes over...
