My luck may be changing.... but this was damn close.
« on: May 07, 2010, 09:48:17 AM »
I've been smeared by a drunk at a red light. Hit by a city bus while walking. And now....

I cannot make this #$%* up it's so unreal.

Two night's ago a tree fell across my Mother's driveway in quite a windy day. Now they own and run a horse ranch outside of Rockton, IL. Lots of woods and a decently long driveway.

So yesterday after I got off work I rode out to the house so I could cut the tree up so my father didn't have to. He has heart problems and the last thing I need is for him to drop dead cutting up a tree.

When I got there the neighbors had the tree all cut up and stacked in the back yard. They were just finishing raking up the small sticks when I came down the drive.

My parents had just got home from going out to eat with another set of neighbors and we were all talking in the driveway about how odd it is to have a healthy looking tree fall like that.

No sooner had everyone decided to go home, when we heard the crashing of yet another tree falling.

My father ran for his truck and I followed.... I glanced up to see it heading right for us. Everyone else scattered like roaches.

I tried to get him down but wasn't quick enough and a branch struck him across the head and shoulders and me across the arms. We both fell in a mess of leaves and branches next to his truck.

The paramedics had to cut the tree away from us, and in the wall of leaves and branches, found me over him with my coat on him trying to keep him still. He was fuzzy for about 5 seconds and then asked why I pushed him down. I told him it was the tree and he replied jokingly... "ungrateful children" and then we laughed.

I walked away without a scratch. But given his heart problems they kept him in the ICU overnight to monitor him just in case. Everyone else got away clean. There were 7 of us in total.

The truck has a few scratches and a nice dent in the tailgate.... I'll get pictures of what's left of the tree when I get home.

So maybe my luck is changing.... but if it's at the expense of my father... I'll gladly step infront of that bus again.

The neighbors who cut it up.... was on their property. The woman was screaming when it fell... I could hear her saying "we killed them oh god we killed them"

Kinda dramatic.

It was just over the fenceline. But this is what homeowner's insurance is for right? New truck, new fence, new driveway....  :D

Glad you and your dad are o.k.
I would hate to see anything bad happen to my ol' man. Especially if I thought there was anyway I could have prevented it.
Your dad is lucky to have 2 guarding angels,(not saying your an angel, but God works in mysterious ways).
I think you and the other people that were there and escaped injury should each throw in a buck and go by 7 lottery tickets!

I took pictures of whats left of the trucnk but they aren't loading from my camera. Maybe I'll get some with my phone and post em.

He's got to spend one more night in the ICU because his blood pressure is erratic. If it smoothes out they'll put him in a regular room.

I told him about his truck and he isn't very happy. Could be worse.... could need more than a paint job and a tailgate.

Man Havoc, you all don't need to be stopping to shoot the breeze, til you get to the house! :o Ever thought about another driveway, WITHOUT trees? ;)

Like has been said, glad that you and your Dad are okay and that you were QUICK to respond too! ;)

well at least you didn't break both your arms this time!  just what you need is to have every major limb broken in some horrific accident!  glad you and your dad are alright!  guess it's time for you to buy a lotto ticket since you're so lucky relative to the past!!
