Blood, sweat and tears...it's done
« on: May 17, 2010, 03:49:42 PM »
Hey all,

I thought I'd post up a couple pictures of my CB750K2. I bought it in October in terrible condition. It had been parked outside in our Canadian winters for a few years. Everything on the bike was rebuilt except the motor. It had good compression. In the last few days, I've finally got it tuned properly and no longer foul any plugs!

I want to say a sincere thank you to all of the folks on the site that helped me out directly and indirectly. (Not only posts but the countless searches for info!)

You guys rock!

Hope you all like it. Any questions...shoot!

Very nice work and very classic lines/paint.

Now the fun really starts when you ride it!
good luck

Nice save here mate, love the retro black wheels. :)

Very nice, I like the black wheels and forks... I don't think I've ever seen forks blacked out.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Sorry, no before pics (huge mistake...everyone asks for some). Basically, the bike was in bad shape. The tank and side covers had been spray painted black on the bike. There was over-spray everywhere...lots of rust.

I painted the frame/swingarm with POR-15 (With UV protection). The forks, wheels, tank and side covers were done using spray paint (Duplicolor wheel paint everywhere). I used Duplicolor self-etching primer underneath. I did 2 coats of primer, followed with 4 coats of paint, then 3 coats of clear coat over the top.

The exhaust is stock from an F model.

The handlebars are superbike bars from Z1 enterprises. I cut a little off them though:

Man, that turned out great! The color is very similar to what I'm going for with mine. I dig the black headlight ears, I hadn't thought of that.

Love the overall paint scheme.....  Don't know if it's the lighting, but it almost has an oiled brown leather (edit: i'm crazy, definitely bronze) look to it.  Very nice.

Many thanks guys!

I can't take all the credit for creativity. My girlfriend helped with the color choice, but I based it off a Triumph I found online. I knew I wanted black spokes, so I started searching and came across this guy:

I saw the black front end and had to have it! I'm really glad it turned out this well on my bike.

westondc: I'll certainly hook you up with some closeups. I'm very happy with the results...no one would guess a spray can job. My prep work could have been better on the tank, but still a 5-footer.

You should look into picking up one of these brackets to lower the gauges:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=63166.msg708826#msg708826

I just got mine and it really looks slick. Especially with the lower bars, it's a nice touch.

really nice! did you paint the wheels with the tire on them? wondering how the paint will or would hold up to a tire change.

Nice job.  I do like the stock F0/1 exhaust but it does hang a little low when mounted to a K bike.  I think the brake lever is part of the issue.  Have you tried an F brake lever?  They have a different shape and may allow you to pull the muffler higher but I don't know if it would actually mount up.  Otherwise just take it easy with those right hand turns. :D  Here is a shot of the F lever. Saw a K bike last summer locally that had the F exhaust.  Looks great.

Did you get that F exhaust new, or pick it up off a used bike. If you got it new, I'd like to know where.

I did paint the wheels with the tires on. I'm certain I'll need some touch-ups when I change the tires. Right now though, they're brand new tires.

Bike came with the F exhaust. It looked pretty rough at the time though. Lots of Nevr-dull.

That is a sweet looking bike. Well done. For a mostly stock look (blinkers, tail and fenders) I am really impressed what an entire fresh and classy paint job can do.
