And how discerning are your friends with who they "friend" on facebook?

Heh.. well, despite what soichiro might think ( ;D), I'm fairly darn careful about what I put on there in the first place - and the people that can see the most stuff are family and old, close friends.  As for who they friend *shrugs* who cares?  Those people can't see my page.

Sure, there are loopholes anywhere, but my system has worked very well.  I don't have to stress about it at all - settings are set and good to go.  The google check isn't something I do often (once or twice a year) and is more to cover non-FB stuff as well.

Okay, so I just Googled you forum name and found out that...

Those are both great reasons to be on there.  I know a number of people who use FB for their professional pursuits, and several parents who make it a condition that they be "friended" by their children so they have a better idea what's going on.

The only thing I'm concerned with as far as privacy settings is that I don't want to make it too easy for someone to rob me.  So I keep my photos (of all my toys) private to only friends of friends.

And how discerning are your friends with who they "friend" on facebook?

Most seem to be selective.  A couple, however, would friend anyone under the sun.  Maybe I should change it to only friends, now that I think about it.  I'm glad I thought about that!   ;D

Hey, and don't forget that you can also set it to "Only friends, except these people."  That covers your drunken buddy Dave and your prude Aunt Mildred.

Thanks for the tip.  I didn't know we could do that.

Yep.  For example, I have people assigned to "list A" and "list B."  Then, I can set sections to:  "Can be viewed by Friends only, except List B and Drunk Dave."

After a cursory search of the social media I think you people are about as social as I get, I am heartened to be faceless on Facebook.

I was faceless for as long as I could hold out, but then one of the five people on this planet (not related to me) who I would do anything for, no matter what it was they asked, sent me a facebook invitation.  I had no choice.

my opinion is that social networking has made us anything but social. i get more txt msgs than i do phone calls, cant remember the last time i got a birthday card or even a phone call, always just a txt. i try to sit and write a letter to people, not all the time but every once in awhile. a letter says hey i'm busy in life but not so busy that i cant sit and put pen to paper and write to you because your that special to me

People bug me all the time to get a Facebook account. I wont sign up though. They can sell any personal data you provide to the site for signing up, or anything you write in posts. It's the *new* privacy. I don't have a myspace, or twitter account either.

Besides, I spend enough time on this site :)

Last year's model.

But, basically, MySpace catered mainly to teens and younger.  FB started as college only (had to have a .edu addess to get on) and then opened up.  Now, there are many different demographics, but it tends to attract more adults.

Basically similar - but consider a bars that cater to college kids, and bars that cater to happy-hour business folk.  Technically the same, but very different atmosphere.

I agree, but FB made a college (Harvard) drop-out stupidly rich.
