« on: September 04, 2010, 11:32:05 PM »
So I'm getting married to me ole lady of 10+ years in just over a month. Gotta order my ring yesterday. Ive heard bad things about ti and not being able to cut it. That being said who has a ti or tungsten ring and has put it to the test! I live for physical labor, and like my fingers!!!

I wore a tungsten carbide ring for years in a factory,I'm a mechanic,so I wanted a tough ring cause I refused to take it off.I would rather lost the damn finger than take my ring off. Tough ring not even so much as a scratch on it after 3 years.

None, was an aircraft mechanic and didn't need my finger ripped off or burnt off.

I got titanium and I'm  dirty constuction worker. I got ten fingers, so loosing one would'nt be that big of a deal.

Titanium for me.  Never had the need to cut it off, though.

Titanium here too. I am a mechanic, I never take it off, it looks just like it did new. Probably not the smartest way to go.

I managed to get my left hand between a water pump pulley and a serpentine belt. First thing I did was take off my ring. Probably one of the smarter things I've done over the.years.

Simple old gold. I had to cut it off twice or lose my finger. It rests in a drawer now, it's a crazy symbol anyway.  ;)

Anyway, I work around a lathe and mill, and dont wear mine.. In machine or metal shops.. considered a bad idea..while working..

I think I'm gonna go the titanium route when I get mine, nice and simple.

I have a gold one.  It still looks like new, mostly because I stopped wearing it about 3 months after the wedding in 1975.

Working with machines and electrical equipment, a ring can be quite dangerous.
A motorcycle or car battery has enough energy to make any finger ring cherry red.  Then when you feel that painful searing heat, you violently withdraw your hand, effectively removing the skin from your finger from the band's position to tip.

Dangley jewelery can also find a bridge position between power busses, drawing high current, as well as getting caught up in rotating equipment.

The original was gold. I lost a bunch of weight and it had an intricate design that could not be sized down effectively without almost remaking the thing. It now sits in a drawer.
I replaced it with a stainless steel ring that I wear when I go out to dinner or what not with the wife. I do not wear it everyday working around machines and tooling. I leave the ring at home and throw the watch in the tool box when I get to work.
I also have a tungsten carbide ring I was given as a gift. It is really nice but again I rarely wear it.

A jeweler told me that a lot of men get sterling silver because it looks like white gold, and if you loose or damage it you can replace it cheap.

I've got a titanium one.  The most dangerous thing I ever do now is car/bike work but if I was going to be in a situation where not being to cut the ring off was an issue, I'd take the ring off whether it was titanium or not.  The reason I got titanium is so I don't have to worry about knackering the thing up.  It looks weathered now with lots of fine scratches.

my wife bought me a very nice tri color gold ring, against my wishes, and insisted I wear it. it got lost off a ten story scaffold never to be seen again, a least by me.

I didn't wear one for about 10 years, when I started traveling for work again the wife wanted me to wear one so she bought me a cheap 10kt gold band. It is very durable but it got caught on a screw and pealed the finger like a grape, it took a pair of channel locks and a pair of vise grips to finish removing it.

so once again no ring

Worked on bikes for years and haven't worn mine for
at least the past 25 years.
Having lost parts of 2 fingers last year I probably would have
lost more if I had it on.... ???

Is a bit like lifejackets... too bad most folks dont think when to use them, or remove the ring.. till AFTER the #$%*e hit the fan... :o :(
