Shipping problems.
« on: March 04, 2006, 06:16:28 PM »
I just bought a set of pipes on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4616259873&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 for  the 350 I building http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=4489.0  I just received an email from the seller.

"Hi Derek.Bad new the U.S. Mail will not ship this package it exceeds 42" in length.Went to UPS and the same rule applies but they ship with a balloon fee a total of $145.I called Fed Ex
and they quoted me just under $47.But when I went to drop off they told me $210 Priority only. But If I open a account I can get the Ground rate of $47 I hope.So I will open a business
account online and see what happens when I drop this package off on Monday.
I will shoot you a email back on Monday with the news."

Back in the early 90's,my son moved out from his mom's in Ca. to me in Wyoming and took the Greyhound out. They let him bring his mountain bike along and if I remember right,he had to take the wheels off of it and box the whole thing up but still...that was alot bigger than a couple of 350 exhaust pipes in a box. I'd sure as hell ask them about shipping it.

And he quoted this guy in Germany $110  ???

" Q: Hello, How much costs the shipping to germany? Kind Regards Karl Payment to PAYPAL
 Feb-25-06
A: Sorry to say but USPS Airmail is the only way for $110 7 - 10 day delivery time. Thank you for asking"

I have a UPS account .....if you knew how much it weighed and what size the box was I could get a quote using his and your zipcode and find out what he's up to.

I make and sell sand scoops for metal detecting and some of the boxes are 52" long and USPS still accepts AND ships them.

According to the USPS, the only size restriction is that the package cannot exceed 130 inches in lenght plus girth.  Sounds like he just needs to use a flatter box to get it within that limit.
