Too cold in the garage to spend some quality time with the 'ol 80 CB650.  Gonna get a major overhaul this winter in the warm comforting glow of the TV and warmth of the livingroom.  lol

*UPDATE*

Going to need some new parts.  Where is the best and most cost effective place to buy?  (Or newer parts that will fit?)

Swingarm bushings
New front brake master cylinder (the original one is completely shot and cracked) (What will fit on my 80 650?)
Front brake cylinder.  (Cleaned mine last spring but it needs to be replaced.  Pitted internally)
Steering bearing sets
Upper engine gasket set (leaking oil at head and valve covers)
Shift seal
Fork seals and dust seals
Fork oil brand/type?

Anything else that I should look at replacing??  Wheel bearings are still nice and smooth with no play..  Engine runs good so I *really* don't need to tear into that other than the oil leaks..

Every time I see a bike in the living room it brings a smile to my face.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

OK..

Yes, married.  Just didn't get along with the other guys involved at the time.  Dunno where she went.  Honestly.  Out of state shacking up with some ex.

Anyway-

It's been -2F here lately so turning the garage into the cave is tricky as the Pepsi and beer keep freezing up.

Hey!  Thats my $10 couch man!  It least the dog likes it.  :)

this...is...AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally encourage this sort of behavior.
Although... I would put down some plastic, then dropcloth then spare carpet to absorb the grease and oil.

Its on a 3/4 sheet of plywood with vinyl floor covering and a layer of cheap carpet on top of that.  Stapled to the plywood.  Will be using plastic pans as the project progresses.

remember... "Wipe your hands off before touching things that are not motorcycle connected..."  i/e couch, dog, wife, door, carpet, food, beer... well... wait.. your beer can get dirty... but the other things probably not..

Me too...but I am married with a very understanding wife. Plus, she loves to ride and has been riding with me since the 70's. This is the 6th winter here in WI that I have put a CB750 or other bike in the heated patio to work on it. Good lighting, TV, sound system and I can shut the door too. The only deal is I have the bike out in spring...no problem Dear!  ;D Only got into trouble once when I did some polishing out there...dust all over. This winter I am finally getting the K1 ready for candy gold.

I hope you don't live in a high rise.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

Or at least it's better than being bored or freezing cold.

Absolutely outstanding.  And your pal snoozing on the couch won't run off on ya.  In the low teens Farenheit here; there's so much I could do on the CB550 if only da wife understood about bikes in the house.  "But honey, it's a mental health issue! You say I'm grumpy all the time . . ."

*update*

Started disassembly last night.  Rear end, swingarm, exhaust and more are off the bike.   There was at least 1/4 inch side-to-side play due to worn swingarm bushings.  Gah.

Who has the best price on swingarm bushings?

If I put a couch in the garage does that count? No wait there is already furnature in the garage... And if I stay out there any longer there will most likely be a bed in the garage too.

I like bikes in the house.  I have bike parts in the house, seats, tanks, fairings ect.  No bikes in the house, but my shop out in back is heated with the bikes and my tools.  Man needs to work where he is comfortable, cause this is a hobby.

Got to love it!!  I built a ramp years ago and drive all my bikes into the basement every winter.  It's great to be able to work on the machines in shorts and sandals when it's -10 F out.

dude, that is going to make working on it sooo nice. As for the lawyer, since there is no hurry, don't even get a lawyer, after all that is just money going to him when it could go on the bike. Wait for the project to be completed then deal with it..

My current "bike in the house".  Married, but can get away with stuff like this since my home office/den is out of typical "line of sight" of houseguests.

bikes in the house is the way to go.  I store mine in the heated basement after gas has been drained of course.  Now...however, if my wife were still alive none of that would happen...Larry

you got a place to work on the forks?  stripping the forks on my 72rd200 the other day and the old stanky fork oil nearly drove the dog out of my man cave.  nasty stench.  shoulda done it outside.  anyhoo..........

swingarm bushings - dealer, i use oem (flame suit ON!)
steering head bearings - all ballz racing
fork oil - have used motul fully synthetic 5wt, and belray 10wt.  you'll see a nice improvement in fork action when using any quality fork oil.  they've made terrific advantages in reducing stiction in the last coupla decades.
fork seals - not pyramid (rec'd wrong size, shipped back to the uk for refund), not leak-proof (failed).  i've been using oem with zero issues.  not terribly expensive when compared with the hassle of fork disass to replace.
