Team Central - MO. IL. IN. OH. Get up on the pegs!
« on: December 23, 2010, 11:58:59 PM »
Well, I am going to help organize the central region  Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio! I'm looking forward to a good time and finally getting to meet a few members. Thanks for the PM's so far and welcome aboard!

Woo Woo, my first sticky! the legs appear to be tentatively, Kansas city to St Louis, then toward the Quad Cities to I80, then Chicago, Indianapolis, from there east we will wait to see who wants to join in and carry (it) on through Ohio toward PA. where the next division will take over.

Anyone along these routes wishing to jump in, let me know and nothing is set in stone yet so I'm sure variations of route will be considered to accommodate as many as possible.

We have 10 riders already and some eastern members, now how about Missouri?

The big issue as I see it is a schedule that we can maintain. Some people will need work time off etc. Enough travel time will need to be allowed so a delay in one area doesn't  hold up the next area's schedule. It appears to be the end of April into early may.

I'm getting geared up for a long ride. Welcome!

There may be some "thin" spots here and there but I suspect we'll have some really nice "packs" of SOHC4's as things get closer.  As mentioned to you earlier Don, my brother wants to be a support wagon with his van and trailer (room for 2 bikes) which can house lots of people, tools, parts, etc.

I'll be looking to open up my schedule for a large "link in the chain" (hundreds of miles).  This will be a blast and worthy of a documentary!

Thanks for volunteering to be the point man in this area!  One of the cool by-products of this whole sojourn is to meet and ride with SOHC4 folks.  I cannot think of a better way to "join" us (kudos out to mycb750k6 I think).

Someone earlier mentioned that riding styles should be discussed and I wholeheartedly agree.  Safety must not be ignored.  Heck, when I ride with my brothers, we regularly talk about tendencies, lead bike, trail bike, left/right portion of lane preference, etc.

As Flounder so eloquently blurted in Animal House, "Oh boy, is this great!".

Thanks Don!

Regards,
John

Good point on riding styles. Back in the 70's we went to Louisville to the flat track every year, when leaving there were bikes in line as far as you could see on the interstate. Of course my co-horts wanted to pass everybody rather than enjoy riding in the group.

We usually took a support truck to haul the beer. It was a different world then. When we would pull into towns to get gas the local police would circle the stations to keep an eye on us. They apparently hadn't heard you meet the nicest people on a Honda.

I am interested in just about anything in Indiana, and or, western Ohio. Depending on routes, dates and times I may take a very large chunk.

Welcome aboard guys, I'm glad to hear from you, it's good to find some riders from both directions. We used to travel to Norwalk Ohio to the drag strip and the other direction used to have a friend in Paris Mo that put on some car shows we liked to attend. This should be some real fun.

For the MO leg (KC to StL) are there any ideas floating around?  I know I 70 is the standard way to get from the one city to the next, but its so boring.  50 hwy is an option to get you from KC to StL-would be a lot better scenery.  Any thoughts?

I went to a car show in Ottowa Ks in my 40 chevy coupe. We took some two lanes that were fun on the way there, I didn't get to enjoy them as much coming home. It was raining, we drove under a funnel cloud, The wind was blowing so hard from the side rain was coming through the weather strip and hitting me in the face, then my vacuum wipers quit, my low beams quit and it got dark and foggy. I don't remember the route though, and my friend that lived there is no longer with us.
Our exact routing is being left up to the riders so hopefully we can agree on something that will work well and be enjoyable. Maybe we can find some old route 66 along the way too. Our area starts somewhere in the Mo/Ks border area so we will need to work the hand-off location out with Rocky Mtn central. Then the same at Oh/ Penn. with team mid/atlantic. I hope to work out my drag race schedule so I can cover a large part of the ride.

Awesome! The more the merrier!  I just happened to think, there is a huge Honda Warehouse in Davenport Ia. If the route works out it would make a good photo Op. Or my favorite bike shop in West Jersey Il.

Yes, it is a 750 SOHC

The guy that owns this shop has a sandcast with a diecast replacement engine, he may want to ride along too. His other honda has 138,000 miles on it.

I am kind of limited in both time and money, but would very much like to carry it through the cleveland area. My thought would be to take the photo of my bike and the mascot in front of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I will place myself into the pool of riders for this area.

;D  Rock on. I'd like to go there to see the display of my favorite band, The Ventures. These guys are in their 70's and spent the fall playing in Japan.

Would definitely recommend Hwy 50 over I-70.  If you're wanting a few more curves, recommend hooking up with 94 just north of Jefferson City and follow it east towards 47, then south on 47 to hook back up with 50 again.

If whoever comes out of the Indy area would head toward Cincinnati, I'll meet up with them and carry on toward Columbus, maybe further.

actually, what I think would be cool is that each hand off be photographed with the two riders and their bikes. additional photos of places with the riders and their bikes should also be in-couraged

So far I have no exact route, I've been waiting to see who volunteers and where they would like to go. I'm organizing the riders from kansas (city maybe) to PA. Everything between is up to us and the time alotted. I hope to work with the other directors to determine hand off people and places. I wish I could ride the whole central region route.
Soon I'll go through the list to see who is in and where you would like to go. We may not be able to accomodate everyone but I would sure like to. I also understand work may determine whan and if some can participate.

Wow, it looks like April-May for the entire 15 state leg, and the leg ahead gets some of April and the leg after gets some of may. Were gonna have to boogie. Who, besides me is available for week days?

Indiana looks strong but Mo is still short, I may concentrate my riding toward the Missouri end and not go to indiana myself. There is a spread sheet that will help us fill in the blanks maybe it will get posted.
