At this rate that rant is going to be my only remaining legacy and will be engraved on my tombstone. I'll put in the order now so they can hopefully be finished by the time I die!

We're closing in on the ten year anniversary of that rant, and to be completely honest absolutely nothing about "cafe" bike culture has changed since then, and that was written from my previous ten year personal experience in that culture.
If there's anything to be learned from this (which I highly doubt there is
) it's that you should do whatever the #$%* you want to with your own bike. If that happens to be what is currently the popular and/or cheaper and easier thing to do, then so what! Do it and enjoy it. On the other hand, don't do it just because it's what's popular and what will get you the most compliments.
Unless, of course, you're doing this as your main means of income. Then absolutely follow trends no matter how hollow they are.
