Ceramic coating
« on: March 02, 2011, 08:27:49 PM »
I'm wondering if ceramic coating my GL1000 fork lowers would damage the Teflon-like sliders inside?

Also, if I did the valve cover, would any damage occur?  I'd have to make sure to get the adjuster holes blocked off, but I don't need to worry about any warpage??  Thanks guys

Ceramic or Powder Coating?  Ceramic coating strikes me as a waste of money in those instances.  They don't see the heat that Ceramic coating is intended for, so why?  Ceramic coating is intended for Exhaust, and other parts that see high temp situations.

You must mean powdercoating and it would not harm any of the pieces . . . anymore so than paint would.
If you mean ceramic coating for the silver look some of the ceramic coatings can achieve, powdercoaters have some very interesting products. Pay one a visit, they'll have samples for you to look at.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

because of the finish.  i'll have to call the powder coater and see if they can do anything like that.  i want a polished look, but i really don't want to spend the time to get it done.  i'd like my exhaust to match a few other components, like the fork lowers and the valve cover.  probably the side covers as well.  i feel it would be a pretty cool tie in, and the ceramic coating isn't too terribly expensive.

i'm mostly concerned with the temperatures though.  so again, can the slider coating handle that kind of temps with a ceramic coat cure?

i understand why y'all say to get it powdercoated over ceramic, i'm just saying that i would like my colors and finishes to match my exhaust if possible...

just spoke to the few shops around here that i actually trust with my parts.  they don't have any powder (at least at a price i'd like to pay) that can mimic the ceramic coating look...  i guess i'm just going to bite the bullet and polish them!  that'll be a nice fun day!

do y'all think i should put a clear coat over the polish afterwards??
