1978 CB550K New Paint Job
« on: April 04, 2006, 03:32:37 PM »
Local Painter did this for me for $75. Its a Red with 2 colors of Pearl and Metallic Gold Stripes. He even re-did the badges. He cleaned the badges...then painted them Gold with 3 coats of clear. He let them dry for 4 days, then sprayed a flat black over the whole thing. Gave it an hour to dry, then using 3000 grit sandpaper....sanded thru to the gold/clear coats. Buffed them to a shine. They look great in the sun.

I think the reason for the good deal was he also used them in a local Business Expo...showing his skills and quality of work....I figured...."Sure..Go Ahead and use my tank"

I'll get an extra nice paint job...What I got was a great paint job and a reduced price. He is trying to drum up local business here in Iowa.

Great paint job, looks 100% better than the $400 hack job I've got going on.

Spoke with painter this past weekend. I showed him the interest from this forum. He said he will work up a price list for:
A. Painting the Tank and side-panels.
B. Tank, Panels and Badges.
C. Just the badges.

I'll post it with Name, Address and Phone# when I get it. He was very pleased with the responses. Thanks.

Looks great!  Can't argue with less than the cost of paint!

I have a guy in Nanaimo close to me who screws the HD guys $$$$$ and gives me a good price $400.00 for 4 piece custom work. I should be getting back my CL350 stuff late this week. Metallic Gold, with a black/silver accent on tank, gold headlight bucket and sides.  I can hardly wait ;D

Your right, when we were talking last, he was referring to all these crate bikes he was painting. Apparently, the buyers are even getting a bike shop to assemble them ::)

People really kill me. I have known guys who could do about anything with a car (inside & out)
and yet the are afraid to get into a motorcycle, lawn mower or whatever because (they say)"I
Don't Know Anything About It". Hello!!!!, it's all about mechanics. Yeah, there are some differences
but, basically it's the same thing. I mean, get a manual and go for it. For a lot of us, getting into it is
what it's all about, right. The buyers that don't assemble them, ughhhhh!!!!! Later on, Bill

Nothing that can't be temporarily fixed with a sledge hammer and duct tape is worth working on,
just ask a Harley owner.
peace,
michel
