yeah, that can cause you problems too.  It ain't gonna run any sort of good without the air box, but it should certainly fire off the starting fluid.  Without the air box, it will probably need lotsa choke and/or throttle to stay running.  Keep updating cuz there will be lots of help here for any problems.

IT LIVES! IT LIVES! Two years after bringing this rusty wreck home with the carburetor in pieces in styrofoam cups, I finally got her running. Turns out I hadn't reconnected two spark plug wires and I had only put in enough fuel (after sealing the petcock the way Sean Barney suggested) to run it on reserve, I realized nothing was coming out of the petcock when I removed the lines. Of course, I had to switch it to reserve. After a million kicks and a bruised inner leg, it fired up on the first kick and ran like a scalded dog. Of course it was loud because I'm using the old pipes and one is broken in half. I am so pumped after so much discouragement. Im taking a break for the SuperBowl food but I will film a little video of the bike running for you all to share the joy. Another neglected KO back from the dead!

As I mentioned last Sunday, I finally got the bike to fire up and I promised to post a video. Was busy at work all week and finally had time to knock out a video before going target shooting with my older son. I also managed to finally get the lower brake line clear of crud so that I could hook up the brake line, fill it with DOT3 and pop the crusty brake piston out to see how bad things were. They were bad, as you will see in the pictures below. I think I'm down to rechroming the fenders and getting new pipes as far as major things go. I must say that after owning two 550s, the 750 seems so much more powerful when I rev it. Can't wait for the chain to come in on Tuesday so I can try riding it for the first time....

Mark the date! Two years after bringing this wreck home, I finally took it around the block for the inaugural ride. Much larger and more powerful than the last two 550s I had. I was having trouble with the clutch adjustment and finally figured it out. Runs like a champ, but there is smoke coming off the engine? Could it be because its a rebuilt motor and things are breaking in? Still have to get the fenders either replaced or rechromed and still need HM300 pipes, but I am feeling good knowing that all the money I spent on this rebuild wasn't in vain. It actually runs! Thanks for your help on this everyone. I will post a clip when it is more complete.

As far as birthday presents go, few could compare with a set of original HM300 pipes, courtesy of my awesome dad. He's one of the few people who doesn't roll his eyes when I ramble on about this restoration project. The pipes arrived today and I must say that I hesitated to install them. I just hate the thought of carbon monoxide getting them all dirty inside. I'm going to use the heat shields from the old pipes, but I need to clean and paint the black inserts first. Love them removable baffles! Now, I'm just waiting for the call from the chrome shop so that I can install fenders and taillighta and tag this bike. Dying to ride it after two long years...

Got the fenders and taillight on last night. The last thing left to do is to master the carb synching. Ordered a vaccum gauge this morning. Get a tag and am ready for my first KO riding season....

Looking great. Nothing better than nice, shiney new HM300's. Took me a few tries from Honda to get some that were not dented. Wait until you hear that nice sound as you tool down the road. Be careful where you park it.

I still have to get the starter working. My hip is killing me from kickstarting. The solenoid clicks but the starter either does nothing, or barely turns for a second, depending upon its mood. Also have to clean up the the heat shields for the pipes. I can't believe they don't come with the pipes considering what they cost. The single most expensive part of the bike....

What condition is your solenoid in? I had the same issue when I had my k6 and thought it was just from the old battery. Turns out all I needed was to take apart the solenoid and clean the contacts really well.

Took the 750 to its first bike show. Still running so-so. Tried to synch carbs with my new vacuum gauge but it didn't seem to help. Anyhow, I thought I would share images from yesterday's Bike of Days Gone By event in Melbourne Fla. It was low 80s and sunny. My bike is the top photo...
