    • My first build - 1976 CB550
Decided to start a build thread, so here I go......................... LOL

I picked up a 1976 550 with 20K miles and decided to build a Cafe bike! So far work has been hindering the progress so currently just ordering parts.

Do date.............

Removed air box
Removed tail section and seat etc
Stripped off most of the unneeded tabs

Parts in house....................

Tail section
Cafe gas tank
New turn switches
New key switch (Automotive style) to be located underneath
Custom made 4-1 Stainless GP Style exhaust  (MotoGP Werks www.motogpwerks.com)
Custom made to length rear Ohlins shocks

Attached is a picture of my electrical routing channel  ;D

This will serve a couple of design features, it is the correct height to align the seat/tail section with the tank lower edge.  I will be able to mount tabs to it to secure the tail.

The slot is milled out to allow me to stuff the cables and if need remove them easily. I am planning on using Qt'y 3 .250" aluminum rods, drilled and tapped to reinforce the removal of the slot. I will update this post later when I install the rods etc.

Who needs brakes! it's only a 550............LOL!  J.K I haven't figured that out quite yet, probably doing a dual disc and cross drilled. I want to keep the retro look although I will change to progressive springs and race tech emulators.

Getting the ride and suspension control done right is the way to go.  Might as well get that done first.  Doing it right is expensive, so you've got a great start.

Ever make to N.O. for Mardi Gras?

Didn't make it, thanks for the adapter!  Nice work!

Yeah, it's expensive but I think suspension is key and might as well do it right the first time :)

I got them for $400 and shipped him my old ones. He strips them down completely, syncs and tests them on his bike. I am super happy with them, now I need to get a move on with the rest of the bike.

Back on the Cafe build wagon again, had so much going on...... Track season is over and now its winter time so I am back into working on the CB550 Cafe.

Built a $60 table over thanksgiving to help work on the project, see pic below.

Also, I recently purchased a complete  2006 GSXR front end with Harley hub, new front rim, spokes and tire for a sweet price.

I will post some pics tomorrow.

You didn't happen to buy that off a guy named Brian by any chance.?

Working on a design for a license plate bracket , I have to order my horizontal L.E.D light bar that goes above the license plate. I am planning on using 2 light bolts to illuminate the plate. Hoop to be installed in the next 2 weeks :)

That was a nice looking 550 you had there. From the looks of it, your project will turn out really interesting though. I'll be keeping my eye on this.

Thanks! The tank has the Cafe look,  It is a Benelli tank, Italian. I bought it on ebay a year ago for $90, it is brand new :)  cant believe they are now making $400.
