June 11th 2011 PNW pre world tour plan, planning thread
« on: April 15, 2011, 05:30:35 AM »
Lets plan a meet up to get to know each other and figure who's up for what.
I put my vote down for early June some time. Please post where and when you think would be a good place for this to happen.

Early June sounds like a plan for me, but the weekend of June 5th is out.  The weekend of June 5th is also when the Cretins are having a Mods vs. Rockers party with my buddies band playing.  I have to miss that also.  Other than that I don't care where the location is, let's just do it...

Thanks for taking the lead on this Greg.

Great Idea! I'm up for the the weekends of the 11th,18th, or 25th.
here's my sugg.. Roanoak Tavern, Mercer Island - outdoor seating, good beer, decent menu, and the fun twisty 13 miles of the Mercer loop.  its fun making noise on poverty rock  ;)
pretty centrally located for most in our area, but im open to other suggestions.

June works for me. Since it looks like we have people coming from the North and South ends Seattle sounds like a good middle point. Never been to the Roanoak Tavern but it sounds cool. I think wherever we decide to meet parking needs to be evaluated so we can park next to each other and not have to deal with street parking.

Its a historic old school dive.  Once a brothel, and purveyor of illegal booze back in the prohibition days, turned Inn/bar/hangout in the 50's. My mom used to hang there back in the 60's.  Did my share back in the day.  Lunchtime its pretty chill, dive bar menu, 20 car parking lot, street stalls. Shouldnt be a prob.
anyway, hope we can get a good turnout wherever we decide to meet.

I vote for the  Roanoak Tavern, Mercer Island too. Maybe we meet, ride the island and then come back to plan.

Awesome! Reminds me of when I was in high school! Except the tavern part, but we used to ride Mercer island all the time on saturdays. Fun twisty roads. Make a date and I'll see if I can make it.

If you made it a bit farther north it would be appreciated.
There are some great spots in Port Townsend and the ride is pretty nice too.

Yes. I can make June 11th, but not the 12th.
Port Tounsend was just an idea.
Anywhere north of Seattle would be a big help.

Thanks

Ok, so let's try to keep the date of the 11th but look for some place a little farther north. Maybe we could keep the location open for a week or two to make sure everybody gets a chance.
We know Jimmy is in Canada, who's coming from the furthist south?

Since everybody will be traveling a bit I think we should keep it on a weekend. I do encourage you to show up at a Backfire night sometime and let us all know you coming so we can have a SOHC showing there. Maybe the Backfire in June or July could be a second meet up.

Is anybody apposed to Port Townsend? I just mapped it and it's less than two hours from Seattle.

Jimmy, how long does it take you to get there?

How about if we make the meet up as close to the middle point from where Jimmy lives and Olympia as we can get it?

I have posted this thread's link a few places to gather interest and hope nobody gets left out, please pass it around.

Port Townsend takes about 3 1/2 hours partly due to the ferry.
Not any faster than Seattle actually, just a lot nicer due to reduced traffic and scenic highways.
Even Whidbey Island or a bit north of Seattle would help.

Cheers

I know its gonna be tough to find a weekend where evereyone can attend. if guys are willing to come further north, there are plenty of places on the north end of Lake Washington.  Edmonds, out near the water(will have to locate a place).
There are plenty of greasy spoon diners in monroe, snohomish and everett.
Cafe Veloce (italian sport bike/race theme with bikes on the walls) joint in Totem Lake (10% disc if you ride in :D )
You guys figure out the area, and i'll find a spot if there are no suggestions.

Port Townsend...Really?
Although Cafe' Veloce is right down the street from me and has ample parking right across the street at the deserted Totem Lake Mall I think they might be a little to busy to accomodate us willingly. They want to turn the tables over frequently.

I vote for the tavern on Mercer Island because I think they will be more acceptable to us just hanging out for a bit.

Just to keep you in the loop, the ABATE Classic Bike Show scheduled for May 15 in Everett has been cancelled.  :-\

Apparently, just like the Snohomish City Council, Everett needed more $$$ for security and officers.
More than what Abate could raise thru show vendors and such.
Another fun show bites the dust.  :'(

Port Townsend...Really?

I was jus trying to make it so nobody travels 2x or 3x farther than anybody else. If some people are coming up from Portland I think having it at the Roanoak Tavern would be best.

Hey Rat, lets start a list of all riders willing to come out for this meet, list the days they are available, and where they're coming from (mileage).
with that info, a centralized location on a day where we can get the most attending can be set.
or maybe a simple poll for dates preferred for the Roanoak.

I'm coming from Snohomish, and the 11, 18, 25 all work for me  :)

I'll come up where ever it is (I really like to ride ;D). But I like flybox's idea - list of those willing to come, where they are from, and when they can make it. so + 1 flybox.

With that said I understand that you have a great responsibility, getting all the kinks out and getting our leg of the rally to run smooth, so I would like to applaud your efforts rat and let you know that I'm willing to go as far as the Canada America boarder (I don't have a passport).

But to go along with fly; I'm from roseburg, or and any sat. works for me.

Would love to meet up with you WETsiders but I am allergic to rain and addicted to hunting Morels for the next couple months.  Anyone from or interested in Eastern WA?  I live in Yakima and you are always welcome to a cold beer and grilled Morels if you come this way.  During the summer and fall I keep a fifth wheel trailer up at Silver Beach resort on Rimrock Lake.  Plenty of room for guests and some great riding. Think about a trip over in July/August.  It's mighty lonely over here in Harleyville.
