after reading all the responses, i agree with all of you. but sometimes i feel best just unloading and saying what ever comes to mind. I'm not trying to reason with the person or reach an agreement with the by then, moron. that ship has sailed. it's my way of showing them i think they are wrong. when i am done, i feel calm, relaxed, and satisfied. on the other hand though, my wife hates that!!! oh well.

So far, the reactions from HD riders has been along the lines of "I used to have one of those". I don't ever remember any hostile comments.

I am missing the point of this thread. If the OP came here, related what happened, expressed that it pissed him off..fine I get that.
But instead they tell the tale of  having a run-in with someone acting like an A-hole, then responding like an A-hole back to them.. so why start the thread ??.. you seem to be on a similar wave-length.
Myself, I prefer to hang out with bike enthusiasts that enjoy bikes.. regardless of brand.. and they are out there..

Yay ignorance!

Tell her

if I wanted any #$%* from you I'd swing by the trailer park and get it out of your port o potty.

your opinion is about as useful to me as the three to four teeth left in your head.

Your garbled and poorly composed slang was difficult to understand, but I can recommend a speech therapist that helped my grandfather after the stroke.

You appreciate her expert mechanical advice, and regret that she is moonlighting at the hardware store to get through the slump in the economy.

take that handful of bolts and washers, hold them open palmed in her face, then simply drop them all on the ground and walk out.

Poke her in the eye

that you want to speak with a manager.

I am not saying he is wrong, nor am I going PC.

He is not wrong for responding to be treated like an idiot.. by responding in similar fashion, he now becomes a lot like her... so. they both were out of line..

So am I sympathetic to either?..not at all.

 Let me mention 3 of the many riding groups;
American Iron Riders that hate Japanese bike
Japanese riders that hate American Iron
Motorcyclists that enjoy riding, and dont care what you ride, so lang as you do ride.

Some of those groups expend a lot of energy hating the others, and frankly, I see it on here a lot.. and I am not a fan of that..
There is certain types of bikes I have very little use for, but I would rather not spend a lot of time  slamming them.. rather be doing something else..
I think its probably a lot harder on the younger riders, but hey we went through it.. maybe with age you gain a bit of respect.. or maybe you just project that whatever they say wont get under your skin..

Just spme of my thoughts on it..

Japanese riders that hate American Iron

I would say that this group would have formed because of the ignorant HD crowd. I have known plenty of bikers and bikies and i don't know many Jap riders that hate Harley's, but i know plenty of Harley riders that despise "jap crap", i have even seen a Jap bike burned at a harley do....

Agreed.  However, responding in kind only brings you down to that same level.  Once you treat them the same way they've treated you, you're no better than they are.

Saturday night I rode with a turbo'd Suzuki, to a party at a local bike builders place..
If any of you have a sohc 4 that you think can even keep close to his V-twin at top speed, bring it to Bub.. in fact  I would like to see anyone beat his single cylinder..

The new twin will be fast, probably at least 160hp, with carbs. I guess we will see soon.. witha bit of luck Old Scrambler, myself and a few other from this forum will be there.. hope some sohcs will maybe run..

I personally would have laughed and said something like "Yeah you are right, i drive my bike 30,000 miles a year, I cant trust  an american manufacturer to  meet the standards of my 35 year old Jap #$%^  bike, but I guess on the bright side is that I only paid 2,000 for my bike and not 20,000. Enjoy your weekend rides!"

Only crap I take about what kind of bike I ride, is from my friends of 10 years, and their dads, most of which learned how to ride on old Honda's
!

That is a response to  the posts referring to how some of the posters will just beat the v-twins on the road or  gonna go faster than them anyway type of posts.
 Speculative, not really..
Old Scrambler and I have seen the single at an honest 160mph.
There has been 90 hp H-D's for decades already, and 150hp or more  is not uncommon.. 120hp is very common.
So what are our sohcs making?.. I am not seeing many on here making more than 95..
So lets not BS the young lads  on here and  give them false expectations. There will always be poor running examlpes of any bike, but there is usually a few good runners out therte as well.. I am just being realistic here..

I love the sohc's but they are what they are

But what are the running weights of those HDs'? The xr1200 is  573 pounds ready to run. the 883 which sure as hell wont have 90hp, weighs 565.
What are the top speeds of these harleys? Many rattle themselves apart before 90. So then, what type of race are we talking about? 1/4 mile? Road race?
I don't doubt plenty of hd will beat us in a short distance race, they have the torque for it. But not many will walk away in a distance race, especially once you add in corners.
But then, it is pretty petty to try and compare 30+ year old bikes to much more modern bikes. Compare it to the equivalent year hd and hd does not stand a chance.
