Once upon a time that front end proudly graced a shiny new Honda motorcycle. Looking at that is like finding out that your private school educated daughter has a new vocation as a homeless crack whore......... ;D

keep my family out of this

Oops, forgot, er, sorry…… ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I was thinking the titled frame was worth something. Is it a 750 or a Gold Wing? I know the 450 had fork boots, but that's not one.

"XS500 frame w/ title. 8hp. eng. w/automatic transmission. Eng. not bolted down. needs brakes, speedometer, seat cover, are the main things it needs."

The XS500 (aka TX500) where real turds from a reliability standpoint, so, I guess this is an upgrade?   🤣

I had a 1974' TX500 and did the required cylinder head(2-piece)torque-down.. I also did a top-end freshen-up with new rings, etc. although the balance chain was at the end of it's adjustment. I liked that bike and put over 8000 miles on it before I sold it:all good.

I'm curious if this above 'project' was built for 'just around the yard' ventures..  ::)

Is that real, or photoshopped? Doesn't look right, even though I know it's not supposed to. I actually like Miata's, they are a nice little car to drive, especially without big V8 engines shoved in them. ;D
A friend of mine who was a member here when doing his K5 750 has a knack of being able to install modern high performance Vette engines/stick shift into the Miata. He brought his down to my shop for a little ride once and I left the car thinking I would surely kill myself if I owned that thing.

Yep, there's nothing wrong with shoving a big heavy V8 into a tiny car Eric (Shelby was rather good at it) but what's wrong with improving the OEM power plant? Way less engineering needed, turbochargers or superchargers are readily available, and don't mess with weight distribution, steering and handling.

There was a turbo'd Miata (MX5 here in Oz) going cheap a couple of years ago, 380 RWBHP and looked as stock as a rock, so would be great fun. I have a twin turbo Subaru with not quite as much BHP as the Miata, but in a mid sized relatively light car, it is a wicked thing to drive quickly. ;D

Fortunately the Corvette LS engine's are all aluminum, so they only add about 90lbs over a stock MX-5 engine.

I briefly considered doing a similar bike with a jr dragster style briggs and stratton flathead engine for Bonneville. The tech question/argument would be, is it a motorcycle engine? I know the B/S did come in small minibikes and a few low production american machines. The billet version is nearly 500cc and did not.

Bet that thing may have been ripping up the streets a little back in the day or at least as much as a GT380 can.

I didnt even recognize that it was a 380.  Did the 380 have a curved framework, wouldnt think so.

I just did a quick google search, and the lightest weight I got for an LS engine was 490 pounds, as opposed to 260 for a 1.6 Miata. Still not bad I suppose considering the increase in BHP and torque, if you don't mind the extra weight of a fat bloke sitting over your front axles. I'd still go the turbo route. ;D

I never thought I'd come out in defence of the TX500 Bill, but I had one just like that one (before the engine transplant) and loved it! It dribbled a little oil, but was a well used example. I bought it from "Stanco" in Elizabeth Street in Melbourne in late 1977 or early 1978 (can't remember) but when I bought it, for $450, I had the choice of it, or a Ducati Silver Shotgun 450, either for $450. The salesman struggled to get the Duke going, whereas the Yam fired up on the button, and regardless of what "Classic" Ducatis are selling for, I still think I chose the best bike..... ;D

Now I'm sure this one will be controversial, yes I know Honda built millions of Super Cubs, and they're only scooters, and this thing looks "Cool" but, I still prefer the "Before"....... ;D

Just saw this on one of the SOHC4 FB sites, some poor bugger in Sweden is looking for a frame for this thing, I suggested that he confirms that the engine is salvageable before he worries about the frame, I'm betting that the inside of the engine looks a lot like the outside........ ;D
