New cb400f exhaust came in from Japan--pictures
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:44:25 PM »
Well after the address fell off my package and they didn't know where to deliver it, I finally went down to the post to figure out what was going on, and walked out with my exhaust a day before they were about to ship it back to Japan!  This was the M-Tec Chukyo exhaust for my CB400f/466.    I took a gamble on it but could not find any others that I liked a lot.  I'm happy with the overall quality.  This is their hand-bent version (they had a cheaper machine-bent version as well, but it was out of stock).  It is fully 7 lbs lighter than the stock exhaust I'm currently running!  There are no mounting points for the rear (it is a one-piece set up), and the flange clamps are a little light duty, but I'm hoping they do the trick.  The inside diameter of the headers is 32.5mm, as opposed to the 26mm ID of the stock header, so that's a pretty significant change.  The baffle seems pretty restrictive, and I've noticed now that the same company sells two different larger sized baffles which I may look into.  Or I may just modify this one.  Unfortunately, my engine is apart again for repairs so I wont have a full review for a while...  what do you all think?

Looks cool, but what the heck is wrong with the one on the bike!?

Two questions: Do they make them for other SOHC models? And what paint is that on your engine cases?

Haha!  It's actually in perfect shape, but with all the other performance mods (466 kit, cam, carbs bored, heads ported soon), it seems like the stock pipes are a bottleneck for flow.

They do make similar pipes for the 750k (http://japan.webike.net/products/9357733.html).  The engine paint is duplicolor Cast Iron Coat.  I love the way it came out.

I think it looks great and want to see it on the bike.

You gonna sell the stock exhaust to offset the cost?

Yeah that was the plan, but I may end up trading it for cylinder boring and head/valve work, as the guy who did the work for me last time is looking for a stock exhaust, and I am in need of a re-bore and valve job, as I bought new bronze guides and new valves, and also toasted a sleeve due to a poorly installed oil ring (my fault).  I'm starting over with new sleeves and pistons, and the machine work is pricey...

Dang!  That's a lot more than I would have thought they'd go for, especially with the replica David Spares is selling...

That´s  a good looking pipe, also seems like the exaust tubes are wide enoungh to work on the oil filter without removing the pipe.  Please post later performance reviews

Looks really good. Looks like it will give a lot more ground clearance.

Can't wait to see it on!

Yeah you can definitely get to the oil filter with this set-up, so that's good.    I just finished building a new baffle for it, too.  I used the outside ring of the baffle that came with it, then cut off the cone of a 2" kerker competition baffle so it matched the diameter of the original baffle, and welded them together so the nut from the original baffle could still be used to secure it.  Then I shortened the length of the baffle section of the kerker, and welded it back together so it was the right length.  Paint is still drying but I'll try to snag a few shots in a minute...

Yeah, flow.  The baffle that came with it seemed really restrictive, like maybe it was for the japanese market.  the opening was about an inch or less.  Now it's 2"

Nice I've never heard of those but look very similar to the mc again. $390 for the black machine bend looks like a good deal. Did you order directly from here? http://japan.webike.net/categories/m1200/100000_110000_114000_114034.html  How long did it take to arrive in the states?

Would love to know the performance when you have the bike together as I've been looking for a new race exhaust (yosh, mc again style) for my 400f for a while.

I tried to order the $390 pipes (free shipping, too!), but they were out of stock for a while, so I ordered the chrome hand-bent ones and figured hell I'll just sell my dirtbike later and pay myself back...   I did order them directly from that site, and they were totally responsive, answered my questions in their bestest english (usually within two days), and they shipped them within 4 days of me placing the order.  They got from tokyo to JFK in 2 days, spent about 2 days in customs and came right to macon.  But the posting label somehow fell off the package and they sat literally a half mile from my house for 4 days till I went to the post office and tracked them down.  They were about to ship them back to Japan!  Without that mistake they would have been at my house 7 days after ordering them, so I'd say that's pretty good.  There were packed well, too.

I just got back from Barber today and I saw a 550 racer in the paddock area for sale.  The pipes looked almost identical to these, and they were yosh pipes, so hopefully I can expect similar performance...   I will definitely report back.

Heh, took me about 2 hours to find this thread.  ::)

I was wondering if you've installed these pipes already, and how's the fit?
I was also wondering if you (or anyone else here) knows the difference between these:
japan.webike.net/products/9357723.html
And these:
japan.webike.net/products/9357623.html
I figured my 400 could use an early Christmas gift.

I emailed them as I was thinking of buying one. The more expensive one is hand bent and the cheaper one is machine bend. I have no idea the difference besides that.. I asked for pictures but they didn't send any.

Great looking exhaust. Once you get it installed let the board know about the sound of it. That could be something I would use on my 750.
