follow up....here are a few pics I took today of the tank being able to come apart from the bike and that the foam will seperate from the bottom because of the tape. I will be shaping it 2morrow. YAY.

Awesome. Will be intersting seeing that turned from what looks like a  pile of spaghetti noodles to a tank.

well I shaped it like I like it today. I expect upwards of 3.5 gallons..
I am trying to fiberglass it in sections so I can just mirror it for the other side. It looks large but I like that very much. it just looks right when I sit on it and it has the fuel capacity.
Cant wait to use the caswells on it.

bringin sexy back lol...gonna go so fast I dont even need a front end...

As I noted above, I really hate trying to work with that stuff.  But it looks like you did a decent job, what did you shape it with?

I am trying to fiberglass it in sections so I can just mirror it for the other side.
I don't get it.  Wouldn't you be better off making some profile templates from one side and then flipping them as a guide for the other side?

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

I shaped it with a hack saw and a tiger wheel(flap pad) on the grinder.

Ummm? yes I am going for just that. however, the angle of the knee dent area kinda slopes towards the center of the bike and I can just make one and flip it. I wish I could. I have an educated guess and will see if it works but if not I will try try again.

Oh for reference.....I would use the green high expanding foam can. It is a little more dense , doesnt have swiss cheese holes and doesnt get a void in it as easily.

Thanks to the fine engineering on this poor yamaha tank I have some perfect humps for the front of my tank. most of my pieces are ready to put together and I am waiting on a few more to dry so I can overlay the entire tank..YAY!!!
