Well, I never heard back from progressive so i took a drill to the bushings and drilled them out to fit the 10mm bolt. Slapped on a set of 13" shocks i had and it worked fine. So I bought a set of 13" progressive shocks w/o springs. Im going to call them on monday to find out what the best spring would be for this weight bike.

Lol. Sucks about the clevis mount, at least there was enough bushing to drill out. Sounds like that will work just fine.

My '70 (maybe '71) SL175 had the wiring for blinkers, but didn't have the actual signals themselves and there was no evidence on the frame or fenders that they had ever been installed.

The wiring was pretty rotten and chopped up on this one so im not sure if it had the wires. In all the pictures i have seen none of the SL175 had blinker.

Still working on getting the shocks to fit right. I built a battery box. THis is as far back as i could get it and clear the rear wheel at full compression on the shock. I really dont want a battery box under the seat but i dont have another option because I need a decent sized battery to run the starter. I guess later on if i want to run kick only i can get a smaller battery and get rid of the box. What do you think? Does it look ok or does it kill the whole look?

I really like what you are doing. I picked up a CL 450 exhaust for 10.00, but muffler is rusted out so I had same thought as you to cut them where you did. Not sure about back pressure and sound of no baffle. I will be watching to see how they look if you ceramic coat them.

Im am going to build baffles that slip inside the pipes. That way I can adjust how loud and how much back pressure i get.

Finally got all the shocks sorted out. Quick trip to the hardware store to build a spring compressor and the shocks are on the bike. Still need to weld up the rear hoop.

I think im going to run a front fender. I have to re drill the holes so the fender doesnt rub on the tire. Im going to round of the front and loose the side braces. Toying with the idea of running white fenders on the bike. Ill do some mixing and matching when i get the fenders mounted and ready.

Battery box mounts are welded in place and box is bolted down. Rear hoop is tacked in place. Thats where its going to be. Now I need to work on mounting the fender.

Im going to run these pegs. I think they will look bad ass white with the all black frame and motor.

I cant think of a name for this bike either. I usualy name them after the previous owner but i dont remeber the name of the guy who sold me the sl175 frame.

I moved the headlight back about an inch. Its hard to tell in this picture but it looks a lot better.

I have also been working on the electrical. Trying to figure out where im going to mount everything. Im going to run a small switch to a couple of relays for the headlight hi/low and then mount the switch in a neat spot.

Built my electrical panel today. Hides under the tank. One side has the regulator and 2 Relays for the hi/low switch and on the other side is the rectifier.

the tank hides it all pretty well.

I also made a mount for the speedometer. Not sure i like it. I may make one that would make it in the center of the bike instead of offset.

I think if you could get a larger tach centered then the speedo could stay where it is. If the speedo will be the only gauge mounted then centered would be the way to go.

Well Im back at it. I had a promotional exam for work so all my attention and spare time went to that as well as my new XR600. But the bike is back on the lift. I took a torch to the exhaust and bent it away from the frame where it was hitting. I also took the heat shield and cut it up and re-welded it so it is only 3 holes long instead of 4. I think it look better. It was my first attempt at something like that so its not incredibly pretty but i think it is passable. Next is to make a rear mount for the exhaust. It doesnt need to hold much weight just keep the pipes from vibrating and so the head studs arent holding all the weight. Stay tuned, ill be bouncing back and forth between this and my 550 Cafe.

I finished bending the exhaust where it needs to be. I was getting ready to make the rear frame mount for the exhaust but im not sure if i need it. What do you guys think? Does it need a rear mount with that short of exhaust or will i ruin the exhaust studs?

It sounds like you only have the exhaust mounted at the header right now- is that accurate? I'd definitely have at least two mounting points, that's a lot of leverage to have off just one. First pothole and bang!

Man, I miss screwing around with CBs! Can't wait to have my own shop... next month!

Yeah i thought about it and decided to weld up a mount at the rear. There is not a lot of weight to these pipes but having the rear mount takes all the leverage away. I also cut the heat shield down. The part i had welded on just didnt look good enough. To many small dents and parts that didnt line up. So i chopped it down to Two holes. I think it looks ok and gets the job done.

Few more details on the exhaust and then i can strip it down and finish welding and de-tabbing the frame. Then its time to PC everything.

Man, this is a kewl looking build, hope my cb100 upgrade to 175 turns out half as good as this.

The heat shield is just paint for now. It will be PC. THe rims Are PC.
