sanded down tank, getting the stripes and glue gunk off was quite a bit of work... well prob would have been a lot easier if I had a sanding tool, but I got it done without.

after the first few coats

and I also received some goodies today as well!

So it's been a little while but I've made some good progress on the bike. Got it put together just in time for our trip up to the smokies with just a few finishing touches Im working on now that we're back. So the exhaust is done,

Got the seat hoop and frame smoothed out, welded the seat bracket in and painted it all also got the new taillight fitted up nicely.

The main thing left to do is get the seat cover, I've got a temporary fix on there now until I get the real thing sewed up and attached.

Here's a couple from the trip...

Never  never weld near a battery like that again.
The sparks can ignite the hydrogen gases escaping from it and cause a small explosion and you will have battery acid everywhere!!!  Please

For what its worth when I took that we were just tacking a couple spots to hold the seat hoop. Proper measures were taken when it was being welded up, I appreciate the concern and I'll make note of this, thanks!

How loud are those shorty mufflers on there? Had the same ones on my CM400 and you could hear them blocks away.

Not that loud, I was surprised I expected them to be blasting but they're perfect, love them!

Been quite a while since I've updated on the bike. We just moved across the country so for the past couple months all progress on the bike has been on hold. After we got up here and settled I figured I should quit screwing around with this seat and just get it done already. I ordered new seat and basically although it looked awesome it just wasn't going to work on my bike. So I returned that and went back to my old seat, ripped off the duct tape and old foam, and took it to a guy I was referred to. I showed him a couple photos of the look I was going for and within a week it was ready! I'm really glad I went this route, the seat came out awesome. I'll have to take it out and get some good photos of it, for now though just a couple iPhone shots. If anyone is looking for upholstery work I highly recommend this dude, super easy to work with and does a fantastic shot. These pics don't really do it justice but you get the idea.

I like the quilting on the seat.

I noticed you have kept the pillion pegs, do you actually ride two up? I want to be able to ride when I need to but also looking for a better looking seat than original. how does it go for wheel clearance two up also?

Also it looks like you fabricated all the exhaust yourself, where did you get the parts and how tricky was it. I have done plenty of welding before but not much stuff as thin as exhaust, I am gathering you used a mig welder.

Nice job thus far. My buddy and I are both working on the same bikes - a pair of K8's.

I really like the paint stripped off the brake caliper, it is a much cleaner look - I think I will do the same for mine

timbo- yep, kept it two up, my wife is brave enough to saddle up with me lol nope problem with ground clearance, some big bumps make it feel like it's pretty close to bottoming out but they've gotta be pretty big. Yeah my stock seat, although very comfortable, looked too big and goofy for my taste. Sold it, trimmed the back of the frame, welded on a hoop from a dude on here. My friend cut and fabbed the seat pan as well as the brackets for it, and I had a guy in town do the upholstery. Made it a little beefier than the traditional brat style seats so that its comfy on longer trips and since the 750s are kinda big anyway its still proportionate, I'm really happy with the turnout. My friend that made the seat pan for me also helped me out with the exhaust. I got the mufflers from Dime City Cycles and we ordered the piping and made the headers from that. Sounds great and wayyy more clearance than the 4-1 Mac system that was on there before.

Buster- Thanks! I ran across another dude who stripped his caliper and thought it looked better and was a pretty quick thing to do especially since I had the caliper taken apart anyway to rebuild it. Just looks a little cleaner than the black, kind of odd that it was painted to begin with? Good luck on your K8, you have any photos?
