What's the most painful thing to hit you while riding?
« on: June 14, 2012, 06:10:52 AM »
I've been hit with all kinds of things while riding over the past 40 years.  Many other things have missed.  Two years ago my brother and I were riding back to NY from VA through PA.  While on route 78, a big rig hauling crushed concrete passed us at over 80 mph (we were doin' ~70).  A chunk (size of a golf ball) comes off the truck about 50 yards in front of me and comes bouncing across the highway.  Well this happened very fast.  It bounced up between my forks and frame, hit the right side bottom of my tank (dent) and then ricocheted into my right shin.  IT HURT LIKE HELL!!!  I could feel blood dripping down my leg but I didn't want to stop on the highway.  By the time we got to a gas station I had a bump on my shin bone as big as the rock that hit me and a blood stain on my jeans.  I heal good and the dent on my tank makes a good story ;)

Chuck yu got lucky with the damage away from the head.

I never hit anything devastating but Ill rate hail storms right up there on the pain scale. The biggest jolt Ive received was an owl of some sort right above the helmet    face. I swear the back of my helmet smacked the center of my shoulder blades. Exageration of course but it sure was a violent hit......Boats

A dog used to chase my bike everytime I passed. I decided to stick my boot out one night. The resulting impact almost caused my right heel to hit the back of my helmet. :)
A bird (sparrow) hit me in the chest about 70mph, I thought it was a brick.

One of the reasons I love to ride is to attempt to outrun my age.  I get hit with it when I look at 25 year old chicks.

Ride regularly with leather jacket, full face and gloves. Got caught behind a dump truck on hwy for a quick stint and in that quick stint got a rock to the neck. A gravel rock ad not the tiny river pebbles! Right between the collar of jacket and bottom of helmet. A freaking one in a million shot! Caused a jerking reaction and almost painful enough to have had pulled over for a minute, but I hate trying to get back ON the hwy...

Aint it the truth?  :'(

I would say a truck but hopefully you wouldn't feel a thing. Been lucky on all counts so far.

It didn't hurt, but:

I was riding to work early one morning, pulled away from some lights and a seagull attacking some road kill was a little slow and got sucked into the front of the Gpz, stopped at the next set of lights with a car on the inside; I look down the front of the bike and can see a wing sticking out between the forks.

So, I reach over and grab the wing and pull, out comes the angriest seagull in the entire world, it has a good go at eating my arm so I do the only thing I can; I fling it over the hood of the car next to me onto the grass. It flaps about like most of it's bones are broken and makes a lot of noise.

I caught a fleeting glimpse of the look of complete horror on the lady drivers face before the lights changed and I took off.

Yellow jacket down the collar, down to my stomach. I roll up to the light and it starts biting. I wish I had a picture of the lady in the car when she looks over and sees me punching myself in the gut while trying not to fall over...

I was out riding last sunday afternoon on a beautiful day here in northern michigan.
I was just crusing along enjoying life when, out of no where, I was hit right square in the head with the realization that I had to start heading home and get ready for work on monday.
That my friend is real pain and a helmet and all the gear there is will not help you. :'(

my street runs along a large city park, and in the warmer months there are many deer in the road at night.   i always keep an eye out, but i'm still scared of getting blindsided by one.  we had one leap over my dad's Econoline van when i was a kid and it left an inch-deep hoof dent ON THE ROOF of the van.  i can only imagine the headlines:  "Motorcyclist killed by ninja deer"....  :o

but my most painful thing in the short time i've been riding has been a small stone to the chin at about 45MPH (surprised i didn't bleed) and a junebug to the next at 50+.  bugs have made me really consider a full-face helmet.   ;D

I'll admit that the fear of hitting or being hit by a deer keeps my country riding fairly conservative, especially mornings and late afternoons.

My friend on his Honda CL70 hit me head on on my CT70 back in 1970 or 71. Didn't know what a helmet was back than and spent the next two weeks recovery in the hospital with fractured skull and concussion. Been lucky and  pretty much accident free over the next 40 years or so ;)

Besides asphalt I would vote for the junebug ... those little hard shell bast**ds.  Feels like being hit by a bullet (I can only imagine) when traveling along at 70+.

I have hit the concrete, a curb, the back of a car, I hit the back of my 400f with my dads XS1100 Special and pushed it into the back of a car. But I have been hit in the eye with what felt like a huge bug at about 80mph. Black eye and hurt.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
