Speaking of tele, I watched that JFK - The Smoking Gun doco last night.

Yeah mate, I read the original book "Mortal Error, the shot that killed Kennedy" by Howard Donoghue, back in the 1990's, and I have no doubt that George Hickey, the Secret Service agent (actually he was only a driver who'd only been in the Secret Service for four months) accidentally "let one go" with his AR15, and unfortunately that was the round that blew JFK's brains out.

To be fair, the shot from the Carcano that was supposedly fired by Lee Harvey Oswald could well have killed Kennedy anyway, but the AR15 round was the final blow.

It's good that the Aussie Detective Colin McLaren has revived the story as it's been pretty much lost in time, but I was concerned when watching the show that he was taking credit for Howards work, although to be fair, McLaren was able to find more evidence that the Secret Service and the US government, including Earl Warren, conducted a massive cover-up to ensure that JFK died as a martyr to democracy, and not as a result of a cock-up by someone who was supposed to be protecting him.

After seeing that the only reason that Hickey was carrying the gun was that the rest of the Secret Service detail were too hung over after drinking until 5am on November the 22nd, it really makes a mockery of the whole organisation, what a bunch of incompetent fools. It also makes Lee Harvey Oswalds last words to the press all the more relevant, when he said "I didn't do it, I'm a Patsy".

Interestingly the last person to speak to Oswald, only minutes before Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby, was Inspector Thomas J. Kelley, from the Secret Service. Kelley told the Dallas Police that he was anxious to talk to Oswald, as soon as he (Oswald) secured legal counsel, as Oswald had been charged with the Presidents murder, but had denied it. Is it possible that the Secret Service intended to offer Lee Harvey Oswald some kind of "deal"? I guess we'll never know, which pisses me off............    

Oh please, not another Kennedy assassination theory with no way to absolutely prove it without some sort of reasonable doubt. I don't know why these theorist even bother. That pisses me off.

Yep, the problem is that like it or not, we're all trained to believe what our governments and government officials tell us to believe, so if they say that Lee Harvey Oswald was the only shooter, no matter who comes along with a credible alternative, we are trained to discredit them.

Howard Donoghue was a ballistics expert who'd worked for the FBI, CIA etc as an expert witness in several shooting investigations, and he proved beyond doubt that the shot that hit Kennedy in the head was fired from Hickey's rifle. In McLaren's book he found several witness statements that were presented to the Warren Commission that confirmed that Hickey fired his rifle, but for reasons best known to Earl Warren, this information was never acted on.

Donoghue was interviewed on US TV shortly after the release of his book in 1992, but once again, the American people have been bombarded with theories from every whacko and his dog since 1963, so when Donoghue came along with a credible theory, he was just written off as another nutbag. It's a shame that it wasn't followed up, but it worked in the US Governments favor, and deep down, the American people wanted Lee Harvey Oswald to be the shooter, to prove that the system that they've been trained to believe in, works.

That pisses me off, but that's life, you can't change peoples deep seated opinions with logical argument. Cheers, Terry.

Geez Terry, how did I some how fall into the category of a "trained believer"? Just so you know I believe there was more than 1 gunman and yes the secret service screwed up big time but the problem is that the people who would know the genuine truth are dead and took their answers to the grave or they're alive and not talking leaving nothing but reasonable doubt. That is why all these JFK theories piss me off because regardless of how credible they are they ultimately do nothing but kick a dead horse because of all the reasonable doubt.

The Grassy Knoll theory may well have some basis in truth, I read another book about a Mafia plot to kill Kennedy, supposedly the shooter had Kennedy lined up when the gunfire from the Texas Book Depository started, he saw Kennedy hit, so he packed up and went home.

I'm not sure if he was wearing a Cowboy hat, but he was limping apparently, so it could have been Brian.

Bonanza's on Foxtel Brian, but I don't watch it, there are too many other good shows to watch, but I did watch the recently released "Lone Ranger" yesterday, and even though an Aussie actor played the Lone Ranger, I thought it was excellent.

I'm trying to weld a broken top rear mounting lug on a K2 crankcase, and it's pissing me off. I don't have a tungsten electrode for my TIG (not that I know how to use it anyway) so I've been farting around trying to weld it with my MIG, but all I'm getting is deposits of aluminum bird poo.

I'm gonna do some research and see what I'm doing wrong, I was hoping to have the cases ready for blasting tomorrow, but the way I'm going, it'll be a tad longer........

Some interesting trivia from the findadeath.com website...



Seems old Hoss was a reaaaaaaaaaaal tightwad. Close with a buck, a cheapskate etc. Worse than Rudy Vallee and Fred MacMurray (two other legendary freeloaders).

Hoss got involved with road racing in the late 1960s and owned a car called "The Vinegeroon." It was built and maintained by Nickey Chevrolet in Chicago. Dan and Nickey owner Jack Stephani were friends. Hoss would come to town (always at Jack's expense) for personal appearances at the dealership. He'd wear the Hoss hat and Hoss vest from Bonanza and shake hands and kiss babies, etc. Nice guy, but incredibly cheap. How cheap? While in town he never stayed in a hotel. Ever. Jack Stephani had a sofa bed in his office at Nickey Chevrolet, and Hoss would sack on the property. Stephani's flunkies would lock the gates at closing time, and turn the guard dogs loose with Hoss inside. He'd watch TV by himself, and drift off to sleep in the middle of a used car lot at Irving Park Road and the Kennedy Expressway.

Hoss never rented a car. One of Stephani's car hikers would pick him up at the airport and drive him around in a demo Chevy, usually an Impala. Hoss never paid for meals. Jack would pick up the tabs. Or when Hoss got hungry and wandered out around the neighborhood in search of a snack, he'd take a stack of 8" by 10" glossies with and go to different hash houses and greasy spoons where he'd naturally be recognized as a Cartwright. The owners wouldn't let him pay for the $20 worth of vile crap he'd wolfed down. Hoss, always protesting, would then peel off a glossy and autograph it to Sam, Gus, Pete, Alex or Joe with a great flourish.

Then he'd saddle on back to Nickey Chevrolet, put on his nightshirt and nightcap and haul out the sofa bed and take a snooze.

I heard all of this from a guy who worked at Nickey Chevrolet. There you go!

Ooher, and I almost forgot that I'm pissed off too. I just watched the remake of "Red Dawn", which is way better than the original, but still crap.

That doesn't piss me off, most recent movies are rubbish, no, what pisses me off is that North Korea couldn't invade New Zealand let alone the US, so there's little chance that they'll ever give me the opportunity to go Wolverine on their arse.

Lucky for them too, if they invaded my home town I'd invade theirs, and turn Pyongyang into Poontang............
