How's your Colorado leg looking? Any projected dates? I'll keep an eye on my calendar. I'd love to ride through Colorado with you but just haven't put the priority on getting the bike going.

Here's my schedule. Hoping we can fit something together.

Home: 7/15 - 7/20 ; 7/23 - 7/28 ; 8/6 ; 8/10 - 8/20

Safe riding to you  :) Oh yeah, don't trust American drivers too much.

Denton last night with sohc4 member greenjeans. Super nice guy, and his artistically tallented wife. He gave me a replacement tach cable from his spare parts bin! Stayed up late, drinks, and trading our stories. Did I already say super nice guy? It bears repeating.

Headed to Amarillo for tonight, then into Colorado. Hope to get to Hondaman to buy his points conversion kit.

A great place to visit is Las Vegas New Mexico - home of the jail shown in the movie Easy Rider and where they filmed the parade scene. Take rt 104 to get there from Amarillo for an amazing ride - justt gas up first as lots of nothingness. Then go back roads (Rt518) to Taos (again shown in Easy Rider - the hot springs scene - super nice riding around there and good way to get into southern Colorado - any road is good! If feeling adventurous take Rt 522 from Taos.

Durango, Southern Colorado has a good hostel to stay at. Rt 149 to Gunnison in Colorado is not to be missed!

good luck

Thanks Andy! My father wanted to rent the movie easy rider as a way of talking me out of going on this trip.

Hi Jerry. I think that tomorrow, wednesday, I'll head west into New Mexico to check out Santa Fe. Then head into Colorado springs on thursday. Does that work for you?

Just regular/normal, nothing fruit flavored or fancy-pantsy.

I actually missed the bad weather today, or rather, it missed me. I'm safe and snug and dry in a Santa Fe Motel 6.

Tomorrow, I'm thinking heading north on 285 to alamosa then 160 to walsenburg, then 25 up to Colorada springs.

See you tomorrow, Jerry!

Looking forward to it!

Option #1 :

Alamosa ; Salida ; Buena Vista : Woodland Park ; Colorado Springs

More scenic. Not as flat. Little longer. Not Interstate. Nice 2 lanes. No switchbacks, etc.

Welcome to Colorado

Sounds good, thanks! Local knowledge is priceless. All I'm doing is looking at a map.

Taking a peek at the map.

Option 1(A): Alamosa north on CO17. Take a right at Mosca and go check out the Sand Dunes. Pretty cool especially considering where they are.

I can have you running out of time very easily  ;) You really won't get into serious mountains until you leave here. You'll just be dabbling in them until then  :D

Frank, if your cover screws came loose earlier (as I believe you reported in your website), perhaps you should consider getting some blue thread-lock and putting a bit on those threads.  Maybe Jerry has some you can use.

Hi Mark, good idea.

I hope to pass by your work today to buy a points conversion unit.

Running rich at altitude: should I get hotter plugs to compensate?

So Frank shows up last night around 8pm. He decided to use his GPS once in town to route him to my place. It gave him a tour and I get a call saying he's lost. Hahaha.

We had a great visit. A shower, some ribs on the barbie and some liquid refreshment brought the night to an end. Early start this morning brought an oil change, air in the tires and chain lube. He's now heading north for some REAL mountain riding. 12,000+ feet. The plan is to drop by Hondaman then head up to Rocky Mountain Park for a jaunt over Trail Ridge Road and into Craig along US40 where he's going to meet up with Proto before heading to the coast via The Loneliest Road in America, US50 through Nevada.

Safe travels my friend.

Thanks roach carver!

Life doesn't get much better. I just spent a very pleasant hour with Mark, installing his points saver ignition in his shop. What a first class gentleman.

Bike runs better, low rpm and high.

I plan to get to Craig CO for tonight and into Utah tomorrow.
