my favorite sohc4 bike ever is a 78—

That being said, my girl works with a cat who has a 78 750, and would trade me for my 76 550 in a heartbeat. If i hadn't poured so much work into it, I would.
Great looking 78!

Hey mrrch,

Tell me about those side covers. They don't look like stock covers for a K. They look like F covers. Are they interchangeable or did you have to mod something to get them to fit? Was also curious how much you had to shim the steering column to keep those clubmans from hitting the tank.

That's sweet! I read somewhere, and I can't find it now, that the 77 K model had the 76 F motor.

They were later F covers (oil tanks are the same part number) that I ordered from Frankenstuff and they went on with no modification. I did have to add some small allen head screws to make the steering stops adjustable to stop from hitting the tank. The engine top ends(76F & 77K) are the same but I think the transmission ratios are different from what I recall.

I can tell you from experience that F covers will fit on a K frame, the only issue is opening the stock seat. The stock K seatpan will hit the top of the left F cover, with a K cover it clears. Not that you look like you have that problem mrrch ;)

My favorite of all the other years also !!   LOVE the 630 chain, the heavy duty clutch, even with a new cable, you can tell right off it's heavier duty, springs seem stronger....never any slippage with mine !!

Nice bikes in this thread, some people may say the later models are ugly but damn I do love the 77/78's. I will snap up an early model in nice shape at some point I'm sure, but my 77K will always be my favourite. Love that bike.

I like all of the 750 fours but it's the shape of the tank on the K7/K8 bikes that I really like.  The tank has style as opposed to the earlier bikes that just have a simple rounded tank.  Another of my favorite tanks is the one on the later years of the Ariel Square four.  And it's shape kinda reminds me of the K7/K8 tank.  I don't have any new pictures to share because I'm the process of dismantling the bike for restoration.  Give me six months, maybe......

Not sure of year or make but I'll let you know.

Am I good or what?
