True.  I wouldn't be able to justify all the work I'm putting into this one for a lesser pedigree 750.  Nut & bolt restorations are too cost prohibitive for most of these bikes IMO, so this will likely be the nicest 750 I'll ever own.

Greggo - what is the plan for the head? I assume near stock...

No man, I can't believe how low that went for.  I got distracted and forgot to set my timer to remind myself.  Also can't believe someone paid over $1K for those oil lines :o

I can't either.  I was bidding on them but that was too much for me.  ::)

I can't either.  I was bidding on them but that was too much for me.  ::)

They did look very nice however.  Seemed like just polishing the metal back to original finish would have made for an excellent looking set.  Usable ones can't come up very often, I'm sure.

I did really miss out on that head...it was the very early design, with the less developed oil returns at the springs, and the smaller scallops.

Finished the forks, and got the cases ready for a solvent bath after pulling the shift forks and the second set of gears.  I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to remove the shift drum, or the kick starter spindle.

I used the manifold in the picture to drive the fork seal down.  It came from a trash bin, and fit perfectly!










I noticed a spot on the upper case where the cam chain was really eating into the metal...not pretty

I remembered to take a pic of the other marking on the oil pump to compare to MarkB's


The head needs some clean up work on a few fins; two corners are bent up and slightly torn, and the front top fin is warped a bit too.

Thanks.  If I could go back, I would try to get more of a satiny finish on them.

Yep, more shiny...like MarkB's aluminum pieces.  The head will go to an experienced machine shop if they think they can do it.  My dad's shop partner is friends with one of the guys through the small airport where they fly.

Yesterday morning I took the swing arm, rear brake stay, and kick stand to the chrome shop I was recommended to have them de-plated.  It's called Electro Forming, and it's in Richmond, California.  The guys were cool and they're giving me a good deal ($100 out the door).  Too bad they don't do zinc plating...I gotta get that done soon, but I need the brake stay back so I have to wait.

I found some time to polish the HM300's to see how they've held up, and see if I can get away with running them until the bike's ready to sell.  If only the left side pipes were as nice as the rights :-\ :-\ :-\ With Yamiya perpetually out of exhaust sets, I am happy to have these, especially having only paid a few hundred bucks for them...They cleaned up pretty well, but the #2 pipe has some severe corrosion at the kickstand stop.  Me and the rest of the K0 world have been on the lookout for a decent replacement, but ALL the original pipes seem to have the same damage.  Both left side pipes also have road rash, and holes in the end.  The right side pipes are both in 8/10 condition.  They are all 'non-paragraph' pipes.

The jeans on the floor are indeed being used for insulation ;) It's been down in to the 20's overnight the past week, and I get a mean draft in this 1970's building.

 I'm conflicted on mine, I have a nice low mile  F1 that I ride and I did the entire resto on my K0 hot rod. The sandcast fell into my lap, it turned out not to be a bike my buddy rode, he never titled it. I found a little history but I'm less attached to it than my two other bikes. Then there's the dollar aspect. Will I ever own another one? nope.
