Well the head and cylinders were sent out to Mrieck yesterday... The bottom gasket is putting up a good fight though. Soaked with carb cleaner, engine cleaner... Used a razor blade and still have a bunch left. .. Also bought an engine stand. .

I had a really hard time getting my base gasket off also.  Hours of solvents and scraping.  My cases were split so I ended up finishing up with the soda blaster.  Good Luck.

Tews - a new, sharp chisel will remove that gasket.  But don't get crazy with it.

240-400 grits paper with a sanding block. Work across the seam, not inline with it. Works quickly and won't damage the case. If 400 works quickly, go up to 600 to find the least abrasive grit that still works without scouring.

Trews - dying tos eve this thing progress, get scrubbing damn it!

Decided to pull the oil pan. The front of the engine is full of gunk... A few bolts look as if oil is seeping... I pulled the oil strainer. No metal flakes which is good. Hopefully some can chime in. The inside looks really clean. All teeth look great. No rub marks anywhere in the cases.... Should I be looking for anything out of the ordinary? The chain does slide side to side.... Is that normal? The oil line is rock hard... Shall I replace?

I'm with Matt on that, the rubber tube is basically stationary , so as long as it isn't cracked or brittle....Why change it .
How slack is the primary chain and how slack was the camchain when you removed it? If you suspect you could use a new one of either, get both new. If you are adding more horse power to the engine and you already have a swinging primary or a slack cam chain now's the time to do it.
Why do people turn engines over if they aren't going to split the cases? Because the pan is off only makes this a little better, below your clutch , on the flat spot under the kickstart shaft, the pockets that are just under the crank, the drain plugs that are still in..... all the wasted particles from your clutch and other engine wear lay in these areas , now by turning the case over all that stuff will be infecting the crank bearings, and primary bearings, now it's free to get into all the bearings, backfeed to the oil pump and get all over the gears ....  Well , anyways I hope that if your chains look slack that you would consider splitting the cases , clean it all out real good, spill some oil on everything and change out the chains.
Dirt and other particles on the bottom of an engine should either be left at the bottom or cleaned out, never allowed to re infect the motor

Primary isn't loose.. Only moves a little and that's if I put pressure on it. Cam chain is in really good shape and also very little play if any.

Thanks for the insight guys.

No gaskets ordered yet. Any sets you would recommend? I gave up on the foam seat. It made a mess and looked like #$%*....I will modify the one I already have.

I like the Vesrah, good quality at a fair price.  There are others that are slightly cheaper though.

Not sure why... My galaxy shattered and insurance sent me a replacement. I downloaded Tapatalk but the new version is funky.... It was another view of the internals of the engine from the oil pan area.....

No update. I sent off the head and cylinders to get bored. Waiting for the brackets to be made to have the rear shocks be mounted. I am debating if I want to buy a wheel stand to true the wheels myself.

I bought one but ended up paying to get them trued. I laced them but didnt want to deal with the trueing part of it. ive seen people put the swing arm on a vice and use the axle as kind of a makeshift stand. I kind of regret buying it because i doubt i will have much use for it in the future.

What did it cost you? I might take a crack at it when I get to my wheels and may need it. PM me if you want to get rid of it. I'm waiting to see Tews' engine work when it's back. That part I may get done professionally...

do it Nick, I got my truing stand for under $100 and it took me 4 hours to do both wheels the first time, and only 30 minutes to do the front wheel the second time. once you get the hand of tightening what to move sections you want, its easy. a shop was going to charge me $270 to do both wheels so it was a no brainer for me. I did not want to do it myself initially either but am very glad I went for it. very satisfying. its like a dying artform but you'll know that your wheels are true. remember no one loves your bike like you do. I try to farm out as little as possible. love the build man, can't wait to see more updates!

I got mine on ebay, brand is called "Tusk". it is similar to my last name so I bought it! haha. great stand. I also picked up a runout gauge and magnetic base on amazon. I think all in all it was close to $110 or so. not sure what torque wrench you are referring to

haha yep thats the stand! I liked the built in level so you can make sure you're starting out right. make sure you put the outside round clamps as far outward as you can so they rub up against the bearings otherwise the axle will shift one way or another as it spins. putting those clamps pressed up against the bearings prevents the axle from going anywhere (preventing your wheel from shifting left or right and ruining your reading.

once I figured that out it was a breeze to use.

and after watching the video I see the toque wrench, I used a standard spoke wrench, nothing fancy. I have a lot of experience tuning guitar strings so after I trued it vertically and laterally I checked the pitch (relative tension) of each spoke. I got them to be similar in ping, and checked for true again. had to make some adjustments and compromises. I cant remember the honda measurement for a trued wheel but I was WAYYY under the tolerance. easy to do if you have patience. that torque wrench seems cool though, but I think it isnt necessary

I never had any wheel wobbling or related issues after truing. I did have a shop mount my tires but I balanced them myself because I did not want sticky weights on my rim, I wanted the vintage weights on the spokes.

cheftuskey,
If you want to go completely without wheel weights, use DynaBeads.
