Preheating the cases helps purge impurities from the alloy and "opens" the surface for a better bond. Most powder coasters use this same technique. Obviously, Tews is a professional and knows how to get professional results!

Lol. Far from it. Last night the wife made me take it out of the basement due to fumes. My garage was around 61 degrees. So I placed it in my wife's van for the night...  ;D

I once put some catalyzed paint in the freezer so I could shoot it later.  My wife found it about a month later.  She made me throw all the food out after that.  That was 20 years ago and I still hear about it.  :-)

Stev-o I must admit I spent a small fortune on the engine and I am deathly scared of messing it up during reassembly.  Not sure if I will hire it out or ask a friend to assist.

Dennis will you be holding the vintage ride again? I plan on being there Saturday. This time the family will be following me in the mini van.

Finally an update. The engine is together.  Now the frame isn't complete but I may be buying a 550 that I could throw this in and test it. I must thank the members here with the cam alignment. Big thanks to my buddy Mike. He helped me put it together...

I've decided I had to get an uncut frame. Kind of stuck on whether to use my modded frame. Here is the new seat I got from Bedlam Werks. Awesome quality seat here! Absolutely stoked!. I may attempt to re cut my modded frame to fit the seat. What do you all think?

I don't recall frame mods made, but I like the shape if the tail with the tank.

Nick, I have two 550 spare untitled 550 frames. A '77, with some damage where a PO cut out the portion under the main spine where the coils attach, and an intact '74. The '74 has the swingarm on it, the '77 does not, but I still have it.

You are welcome to either one.

Thanks for the offer Danny. I picked up the uncut frame already from Goddfrey. I'm leaning towards the uncut one. I will have to get a different hoop.  With this set up I will have to use the stock battery box as the seat is to small for a battery.

Will the hemi-loop of the kicked up rear fit the curvature of the new seat? If so, cut it off the modded frame, and weld it to the frame from Godferrey. Or for that matter, take the loop and section it back into the modded fragment he new length of the seat?

Can you mount a small Li-ion battery on the top of the swing arm?

Why even remove the stock brace for a hoop?  You already hacked one frame to the point of you not wanting to use it, why wreck another one?  I don't see any improvement in making any of these changes.  Just my opinion Nic, you know I luv ya.

I understand Sean. I will have to think about this. I like the frame I modified but I plan to use it for another future project. Plus this new seat flows with the tank lines much better. Any idea how I could mount the seat yet not have the rear part of the frame where.the turn signals attach to? My rear light has the brake light, running light and turn signals all in one.

Mod the seat so that it uses the turn signal holes as the rear seat mounts
