Cal has been real kind and walking me through the process of elimination but my phone was dying and I had to stop. Plus I'm pretty sure my inability to understand electrical doesn't really help. There is no spark from 1 and 4. I think I may attempt to set up the Prestolite ignition. I swapped the blue and yellow from the ignition To the main harness and got the back fire.

I will get this resolved but calling it a night.

2 steps forward 1 step back, that's my moto! I swapped the electronic ignitions and the bike roared to life! I noticed the same noise in her that I heard in the green 550 I had not to long ago. Drained the oil, pulled the pan and being the idiot I am I assembled the kick starter wrong.

Now I will pull the clutch and attempt to remove the kick starter and reassemble with the engine in the frame.....

BTW! Holy #$%* this exhaust is loud as hell!

The kick starter has been fixed. Exhaust has been mounted and she is a true runner. This is the first engine I have ever built. I am kinda pumped! I need to put the airbox on, sync the carbs, do the timing and bleed the front brake....

Lastly line the tank with the Caswell I got. BTW did I mention she is loud???

I had a dream you took it for a ride?! What is your break-in procedure? Did you think the MotoGP pipe would be quiet??

Funny! I can't post a video yet. I need to fix the bubbling leaky head gasket... Sigh.... I am not sure if the gears were put in together incorrectly but the bike is hard to shift gears. I played the clutch but will do more once the Dyna S comes in tomorrow. Honestly I am not to bummed about the whole process. The engine itself is really quiet. No cam chain slapping or ticking from out of sync valves. Very pleased with that aspect.

If I have to tear down the engine this winter I will. I wonder if I could squeeze out some more HP without ruining it as a daily driver.

Oh yeah I am sure I need to re-torque the head but I must admit the cylinder o rings were left out!

How old are those plugs?  If not relatively new, I would replace to get a "fresh" read.

Weird not sure why my entire post didn't show. Anyways the valve cover has been removed, head has been re torqued. .. Also those are the plugs before a sync. Will do that tonight. The plugs are new. I'm thinking 1 and four are darker due to the dyna s not firing those.

Thanks Dennis! I am not sure about Slimey this year. I think the high is suppose to be around 52 and a low of 38. Not my type of riding! Especially when we leave early at the coldest past of the day and return on when the temps drop. Have a safe ride and take some pics!

Well the top end is done. Carbs syncd. Took her for her first ride since fixing the leaky head gasket in the freezing rain. I couldn't open her up but her is the video. I'm running a tad rich I think.

She's a beauty, Nick.  And she sounds terrific. I'd echo Cal's advice and add a support bracket to the exhaust.

I used to test ride my bike hard in front of our house out here in the country. On top of that there used to be a guy,Jays Japanese Junk who had a little scrap yard down the road where bikes were ran up and down back in the day.
Well one day I do some 'testing' and when I get back a severely agitated grumpy old man neighbor is waiting in my garage with a baseball bat  :o   I 'put him over the edge' as he said.  We talked it out and later became pretty good friends. Funny way to meet the neighbors  ;D

I can't resist this:

So, a few years ago a friend of mine and I went up to my buddy (who is old enough to be my dad and then some) of mine's house to do some work...I think on my Corvair. My buddy had a modified Honda Civic and at one point had to turn around or something. It was a loud car I guess, not THAT loud...

My buddy's neighbor comes over screaming at us with a baseball bat about how he's gonna kick our you know what's and blah blah blah and we're making noise on purpose and he doesn't care about the cops and blah blah. Of course there was no reasoning with the crazy old bastard about how my friend was simply driving his car and that was it. I found out later the guy owns a liquor store and nearly everyone hates him. So it wasn't just us...

Okay, sorry for the hijack...

LOL we have been here for 3 years and yet to really "meet" the neighbors. The one neighbor has come outside the few times I have gone up and down the street yesterday and the day before.

On a side note the head gasket leak is no more. I took her for a night spin in subpar 40 degree weather last night to a buddy's place. She runs really smooth. I am worried at lights due to not having a functioning tach. I like seeing where the RPMS are. I was thinking and has anyone retro fitted a 650 tach to look like a 550 tach? Is it even possible?

The heat wave should be coming through around noon and we will hit 50 degrees. I will get some back road riding hopefully and report back. Maybe a video of the ride as well.

Nice Tews!

A lot of "lawn" time in the video.  You better rake those leaves off before your wife complains that you spend too much time "playing" with your motorcycles. No need to ask how I know.
