OK......seat questions...............where did you get it?

Is it a direct bolt (pin) on?

And can you go into more detail why and what did you do to reinforce it?

Thanks

Jack

Also.....how much longer is the 550 swingarm......that is something I'm wanting to do to me 750?

Jack- seat is from dime city. its not a direct bolt on. the front part of it is a bit narrow for the 750 frame but barely noticeable. I ended up making a aluminum pan i fastened to the seat using threaded pop rivets. Then i inserted some studs using loctite to lock them in and fastened them using wing nuts and rubber spacers to dampen it a bit. Ill take some pics to show how i did it .

the swingarm is about an inch and a half longer than the 750 one so you will need a longer chain.

Kewl....thanks jojo.....quick response....chain is not an issue for me I hope.

Mine also is relatively new. So we'll see.

That from end swap is what I really want to do.....but, at the time, 550 front forks and a 550 swing arm is gonna give me the look I want on my 750 for the time being.

Thanks my man

Jack

So I started trouble shooting the sticky throttle and its def not the cables or the tank getting I the way since I removed it and turned it on to try and diagnose. The carbs only stick when its running. I lubricated some of the spots that needed it and nothing. My guess is return spring, or carbs just need a rebuild. Any ideas??

JoJo,

Galfer makes a GP setup for the gixxer frontend for like 130 beans.

This is what I'm using. It's been extended 3" on the upper line, so I can eventually run converti-bars. How's your clearance on your headers with that 19" front wheel? Make you nervous at all when you yank hard on the brake lever? ;)

those are nice looking lines. indeed it does make me nervous, so much so that i zip tied the current lines together and then fastened them to the lower tree to keep accidents from happening.  Is this a part they keep in stock?

If you just want the regular length gsxr lines, yes, they're in stock. I bought mine from Podium Superbike Inc. Custom made, they were to my house in 5 days! You can get them in just about any configuration, color, coating, etc.

sethdhawkins- thanks for the tip!

my carbs were in good shape but were in need of a nice cleaning session to tore them apart and cleaned them up real well. I was having trouble tuning them but i finally figured out the issue. The small plastic/rubber guides werent fully adjusted and therefore the pistons werent retracting all the way down causing my bike to idle really really high. Once i got them adjusted it was all smiles.

not too sure how to embed the video but here is a link of it revving nicely.

hopefully someone has some insight on this one. looks like im leaking oil from the underneath the case. It looks like its coming from the small cylindrical part that houses the ball bearing that grounds out the neutral wire.  anyone have this type of issue before? Its really difficult to get a clear picture of it. Does anyone know if its supposed to be a press fit or maybe some king oring/gasket that im missing

Nicely done.  I'm back and forth on whether to use a CR style front fender or a modern fender on my next build.  I like the plug and play aspect of the modern fender.

How's the fit of that Duc fender? More importantly, how does it handle?!?!

I had to make some slight modifications to the fender to get it too fit.  the inside has some extruded parts i had to smooth down with the dremel. I also made marks to add additional holes to the ones on the fender since they dont match up directly to the gsxr mounting points but it fits pretty well. I will get some more pics for you. I have 3 different fenders i considered but this was the one i thought needed the least amount of modification, had the best fitment and lightest one of the bunch.

I have the original gsxr 1000 fender, a cb650 fender, and the monster as well.

I have to say it handles quite different than the original. bc of the front setup and the layout of the cb frame the clipons are actually really comfortable (for my size anyways, im 6ft). I still need to iron out some kinks before i take it out for a long ride and get a better feel for the bike overall. im also considering having a honda tech setup the front and rear suspension to my specifications.

It is much nicer than having to fabricate mounts. especially since im trying to button everything to start riding. Its been 7 long months and ive been itching to ride her. We've had some really nice weather and all my friends are out riding and ive been stuck in the garage.

What are you doing for your next build?

It's similar to yours in that it's a CB750K2 with a modern front end.  I'm using a Honda CBR600RR front end.  The motor is going to be a torque beast -- 836 high compression Wiseco, with CX-7 cam, Mike Rieck Stage 4 head with Kibblewhite kit, Cycle X back-cut transmission, balanced crank and rotor, HD primary and cam chains and tensioners -- built to similar spects as Doctor D's build.  The gas tank, seat, oil tank are all hand-formed aluminum.

Man that is intense, nice job. I just spent the last 30 mins looking at your thread and the other ones linked to it. I would like to build a second bike with a monster engine like later on down the road. For now ill have to recover from this one and enjoy riding it. What do you currently ride?

Unfortunately, the Nine Lives will likely need a top-end rebuild, so she's out of commission for a couple of weeks.  It's sad because I was having a blast riding her.  Currently, I have a 2005 Honda RC51 SP2 and a 1975 CB550K1 that is mostly stock.  The only mods on the 550 are Tomasselli adjustable clubmans (so they are not murder on my wrists), a Braking radial master cylinder and steel braided brake lines (to improve the stock wooden feeling front brake), Dyna 2000 ignition, smaller turn signals, new seat cover (stock style), a 4-1 Yoshimura-style exhaust and a bobbed front fender.  I'm not planning any more mods to that bike, as I want to leave it mostly stock.  Hopefully the Nine Lives bike will be back in action in a couple of weeks.

Here's what the 550 looked like when I bought it (no longer has the sissy bar, highway pegs or rusted 4-4 pipes):

The modern bike:

Did you get a new set of gsxr forks? I searched the earlier pages but never saw anything about you needing to replace them. Your bike looks awesome! I am hoping someday to do a similar setup on my 550. Do you have any clearance issues with the 19" front wheel?

Finally some progress.

fabricated a new seat pan since that abs plastic stuff is too soft. I used rivets to attach it to the seat. Then i used threaded pop rivets to mount them to the frame using studs and butterfly nuts. fits like a charm

Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Jojo,

I know this was further back in your thread, but I was interested in the mods to your DCC seat.  Is the base of the seat made out of ABS plastic vs. metal?  Did you remove the seat base before attaching an aluminum pan?

I'm curious as I was thinking of using the DCC seat for an upcoming 550 project.  It's between the DCC seat, a fiberglass Carpy seat, or a bratstyle flat seat with a removable cowl hump.

Those are two nice looking rides. Im actually considering a yoshimura style exhaust for my 750. Did you get it from carpy?
