The tank, cowl, and side covers will be Metallic Sapphire blue with lots of gold pinstriping ;D

Hopefully I will be riding it by the end of next week.  About the only thing left to buy is pod filters.  If anybody's got some, pm me.

Never cared for gold paint like that. Always seem to have a slightly pink look to it. Just my opinion.

Other than that, looks good! Keep it up!

I can say with all honesty, that had I been asked about it, I would have thought that death would find me before someone said that gold paint lookes pink. ???

To each his own, though.

Not sure about the colour, but I think the front tyre is on the wrong way about. We've all done it...

Yep, Tim you're right.  I had the tires put on at the shop, so I could take them back and I'm sure they'd fix it for free, but- how can it be wrong when it looks so right ;D

Honestly, I didn't notice it until you pointed it out, but I may just say to hell with it and leave it.  I would lay down $20 that says the guy at the shop did it on purpose.  He's been running his little shop for about 30 years now, I can't imagine him making a mistake like this.  I bet he thinks it doesn't really matter anyway and just put it on there to look good- I think I may be on his side.

What are your thoughts?

My guess would be the dudes wearing lab coats that design the tire treads define the rotation of the tire for a reason- like it's made uni-directional to channel out water, for better traction, etc.  I could be wrong.

Looks like that tread is a Metzler ME33 Laser?

anybody who has been running a shop for thirty years should be fairly old... or atleast embarking on the years where it seems you dont do things wrong because you are looking for an unconventional look, you do them wrong because it managed to slip past the old steel trap.  Did  you bring it to his attention.  you should.  i am inclined to think that the tread pattern is pointing in one direction for  areason as well.  front tire traction is not something you want to mess with.  dont ask how i know.

as far as the gold it could be the lighting in the picture.  i am thinking you went with a little less yellow and a little more brown in your gold because you are not going with black and gold and blue would require more brown than yellow to avoid looking like a flash gordons cafe racer.  in the pics it looks slightly orange in which case you either have a poorly adjusted photo or paint.  but gold in itself is not to blame, and neither is mike meyers.

Yep, I'd take it back- firstly because the tread pattern is designed to work in one direction, secondly because tyre tread has a seam across it some point which could unpeel if used in the wrong direction. If you ever visit a tyre plant you'll see that the carcass is made separately, then a mould is lined with a big rubber band (complete with seam) that actually becomes the tread, they put the carcass in that and heat the whole lot up, but that seam is still there. Finally, in the UK, a tyre has to properly mounted to be legal.

Oh, Metzeler's website has a great explanation of this. Which seems to have lost a bit of clarity in the translation...

Rear tyres can be mounted at front wheels?
When producing tires, the top cap is heated with an angle bump on the carcass. To prevent the detachment of the assembled edges the tire has to be mounted (concerning the main stress: acceleration force at the rear wheel or brake force at the front wheel) corresponding to the respective declaration. Therefore the declaration of the driving direction at the tires´ sidewall is a very important safety regard and has to be noticed absolute. It is not allowed to mount front tires at rear wheels. In case you intend to mount a rear tire on a front wheel it has to be assembled contrary to the driving direction declaration (direction of the arrow at the tires´ sidewall). Please observe the standards in your country. In any doubts we kindly ask you to consult your dealer.

well, it's still not there, but it is damn close!!  I really love the blue.  the metallic saphire turned out to be more purple than blue, so I went with Electric Blue Pearl- and I love it!  Really looks good on the copperish gold frame.  I had/have two goals in mind with this build:

1.  Vintage, Vintage, Vintage- I wanted it to look like a 60's-70's cafe, not a 70's cafe modernized.

2.  Cheap, Cheap, Cheap- so far total build is about $600

JP

PS- If you don't like it, I don't care.  There are only two people that it matters to, 1. Me, and I like it a lot  2. Whoever buys it.
So please, if you have anything negative to say, kiss my ass.  I don't care if it's not the color you would have chosen.  I don't care if you think a cafe is not a cafe unless it has rear-sets.  I don't care if you have anything negative to say at all, just keep your trap shut.

It has been my experience that there are a lot of people on this forum that run their mouths when it is not necessary.  If I say something that is wrong, correct me.  But if I am just posting, and you don't like it- learn to keep your traps shut....please.

PSSS-  I am in desperate need of side covers.  I thought that K covers would work, but alas... now I know.  If you have F covers, please send me a PM..... I will pay.

Awesome work seaweb. I was in Alberta last month and my niece's husband had resurected a '69 CB 360. He did an awesome job (almost nothing really!). I took it out for spin. Not nearly as powerful as my 550 but still a ton of fun to drive  ;D.

Your paint scheme is different, which makes it unique. I gotta admit that when I saw the frame, I wasn't sure about what it'd look like but, in the end it's I think that it's come together quite nicely. Hey listen, if people didn't take chances and do their own thing, this would be a pretty dull world. I know what you're talking though, there are some who would have all bikes built like their's and that just don't get it. For example, I'm gathering parts and ideas for my 78' 550K and the parts include a pair of Comstar wheels and boy some folks don't like them and said so. I feel like you, if I'm building it, I'm open to suggestions which will be considered with no promise to use them. By the way,  good luck on your search for side covers.                      Later on, Bill

It's not what I'd do, but it still looks good, and good on ya for building it, and cheap too!

But dude, you gotta lose the abrasive attitude. You're coming off like a dick, and that'll get ya nowhere. There are ways to speak your mind without sounding like a jerk.

Just my two cents, take it or leave it.
